Steve's Cafe — Restaurant in London

We visited around 10:30am on a Saturday morning. Quite busy as it was a late summer morning. Busy with mainly families with children. Order med and paid for 2 breakfasts quite quickly. There was a free booth - so that was great. My partner ordered the Turkish breakfast, I decided on a chicken salad. Turkish breakfast came - looked great, a little sparse IMO, but I was assured it tasted great. Upon seeing my chicken salad, I was very disappointed- not my idea of a chicken salad. A few salad items had been placed on a plate, with a chicken quarter plonked on top. The chicken was not only cold - it was rock hard/dry, as if was a leftover from the previous nights dinner session. I must say, what I found even more disappointing, was the fact the same waitress who delivered the food passed our table several times and looked at the untouched plate- but never ONCE asked if anything was wrong. not the kind of fancy, urban, cool new stop-off Herne Hill has been used to waking up to another of every week over the last ten years, but if you want a decent fry-up, a worthwhile mixed grill or sandwich, this place will almost always have room, serve you large portions and promptly, whilst you read the complementary newspaper or watch music videos on the tv and with friendly service to boot.

sure the decor is dated, the lighting less than subtle, the seating fixed and the view of badly parked cars, buses and constant traffic, but you go here 'cos you're hungry and they feed you well, no pretensions - hence...

Great place for filling up with a traditional breakfast. Service comes with lots of smiles and willingness to cook menu items to your liking. Lovely paintings adorn the walls giving the place a very pleasant ambiance, as well as providing opportunity to strike up conversation, if the mood takes you. By the way: paintings all courtesy of the lovely woman at the till! While I was there a customer bought one and commissioned another painting for her...
