I recently visited Suela Cafe with a friend, enticed by its charming and aesthetic ambience that resembled the cafes I usually frequent in central London. However, I must express my disappointment with the overall experience, as it felt like the establishment prioritises aesthetics over the quality of its offerings.
One aspect that left me disheartened was the additional charge of £1 for halal options. This felt unnecessary and somewhat discriminatory, and had I been aware of this beforehand, it might have influenced my decision to visit. It's disappointing and when a place seems to prioritise profit over inclusivity.
The staff's demeanour added to the less-than-pleasant experience. The lack of friendliness and smiles made the atmosphere feel cold and unwelcoming. The abruptness with which our plates were cleared and the card machine was brought immediately after completing our meal only contributed to a rushed and uninviting atmosphere. This was particularly surprising given that there wasn't a significant crowd at that moment, and it wasn't during the peak lunch hours.
Furthermore, the disappointment extended to the quality of the food. The eggs were notably very small, I don't know what type of eggs they use but that sure isn't any sized eggs I'm used to! Receiving only one sausage instead of the expected two, as listed on the menu, was frustrating. Given our experience with customer service, we didn't want to deal with a verbal inconvenience witnessing how they spoke to other customers, so we continued with our meal. The turkey rashers, too, were disappointingly dry, further diminishing the overall dining experience.
Regrettably, based on this visit, I don't foresee myself returning to Suela Cafe. The combination of an unwelcoming atmosphere, additional charges, and subpar food leaves much to be desired. It's hope that this feedback may serve as constructive input for the Suela café to consider improvements and enhance the overall...

Read moreSuela is a bit of a hidden gem, on the edge of the Olympic Park. There aren’t a vast number of good brunch options in the area, so I was really pleased to stumble upon this place. It’s definitely my current go-to brunch spot on the weekend. I was pleased to see that it’s got quite popular, to the extent that I had to queue for a table, but the wait was only five minutes. The very friendly management were quick to find me a table, and the service was friendly and surprisingly quick. They offer a vast array of interesting Mediterranean menu options, beyond the standard English breakfast. They also cater for different dietary requirements as well as having plenty of healthier options and fresh juices.
I opted for the vegetarian breakfast but added some beef sujuk on the side. I also had a flat white and a fresh orange, apple and ginger juice. The food was delicious and portion sizes are very generous. If you have a big appetite, I’d also recommend the Mediterranean breakfast, as that’s pretty substantial. Their coffee is also really good.
The atmosphere is buzzy but relaxed. They have a great team of staff who are both friendly and efficient. I think that’s quite rare in many of the trendy eateries in East London nowadays.
I’d definitely recommend calling in if you live nearby or you’re visiting East Village. I’m sure I’ll be...
