Used to be a good café/bar, now it’s a no-frills bar only, focusing on efficiency and minimizing the need for staff. This place has, operationally, not recovered from Covid. It used to be one of my favorite spots when living in the area. Now it is unfortunately rather “meh”. The menu is very limited (no hot beverages?) and the ordering and payment experience is unnecessarily difficult (QR code, third-party app). They used to serve good hot food and pastries which are now gone. These changes where first implemented during covid, as was done by many venues. However, they don’t seem to have gone back to normal. It's a nice place but they require you to pay using a 3rd party called Order pay which is a part of Checkfer Ltd. This company requires you to enter person data under the lawful basis of "concent" under UK GDPR to make a purchase. This means to buy anything you have to had over personal data (name. Email address) which Checkfer will then keep on record. They also use meta data to identify you location and personal preferences (if using the app). You have no option to pay using a different system and so they are breaking UK GDPR by making you hand over personal data to make a purchase. We arrived at the place at around 6pm with a toddler in buggy. We were offering a cake (from outside) to the toddler. Had already asked the manager if that was fine. As soon as we sat down we realised that the place was not fit for us to sit and we immediately packed up and were leaving. The waiter stopped us at the door to tell us off, mentioning that outside food was not allowed, "You can't have that here!", waving and pointing at us and the food. We were already leaving, I didn't understand why he would do this. Seemed like a clear case of discrimination.
