It really pains me to say this, but Iâve just had the worst Sunday roast I have ever had and would not recommend this pub for food to anyone.
This is so sad as I have been to the Albert many times and was really looking forward to visiting more often now a good friend has moved in nearby.
I hope this review will help improve standards in what is usually a lovely pub and ensure good food standards are maintained as my previous experiences were fine.
This afternoon I didnât want to make a fuss about my food as not to spoil a meal with my friends and partner, but the food was inedible and I had no choice but to send it back.
Mistakes happen and I was ready to accept that, but it is sad that no one seemed to care, and this added to my frustration with todayâs experience.
I ordered the pork belly and when it arrived some of the vegetables (squash) were stone cold and the potatoes barely at room temperature and uncooked on the inside. The plate overall looked great and I didnât want to say anything as my friends and partner had got their food (sausage and mash), but as I took my second bite I then realised the potato I had just been eating was all black and rotten on the other side and on the inside. It was disgusting so I had no option but to send back to the kitchen.
There was not much of an apology, but my plate was taken away swiftly. Sadly, it was only by the time the others at my table had finished their food, that I was brought my replacement roast.
This time there was far less vegetables on the plate, although I had previously only eaten half a potato.
The potatoes in my new plate looked like they had been reheated quite quickly as they were dark and hard on the outside, but still uncooked on the inside.
The pork was also not cooked well with the fat mostly uncooked and inedible. Even the Yorkshire pudding was not cooked properly, so I ended up leaving most of the food.
The staff taking my mostly uneaten plate away at the end didnât seem to notice or care, and there was no apology for the poor prior experience or opportunity for feedback.
As I spoke to my partner on the way home he said his sausage and mash were fine, if a little underwhelming.
The pub also felt like it could do with a bit more attention in terms of cleanliness, something my partner also noticed. Again, these are things that appear to have changed from our...
Read moreAs a resident of the neighbourhood and after spending time at all the other local pubs, The Albert has become one of my go-to favourites and more of a regular meeting up spot than the others. The pub may not represent the 'poshies' you see in the neibourhood but it certainly reflects the 'locals' that live here. A great jumping off point too, if you're at the top of Regent's Park or in Primrose Hill Park but don't want the hustle of the high street on Regent's Park Road.
Reliable, tasty pub food (yes, a bit stodgy) but isn't that what pub food is supposed to be? Always changing seasonal menu - if something looks good you better try it as it might not be there the next week! Probably best value for money is the lunchtime menu specials. Am a huge fan of the fritatta + salad in the summer.
Right, so beer: Rotating seasonal ales. Great autumn/winter special guest ales. A few choice ciders and then the 'import' stuff on tap and by bottle. Don't mess with the wine - it's pretty rubbish and I work in the industry so consider myself a bit of an expert, however I typically don't drink beer - exception - The Albert! To drink anything else would be a faux-pas.
In terms of space & ambiance this pub serves most seasons - fantastic, spacious garden with ample large tables for alfresco dining, or 'pint-ing.' And a few picnic tables in the front if you like the sound of passing cars & bikes. Then, come colder months, inside the old cozy fireplace gets put on. Don't miss the clever seating beside it!
Dog friendly pub and occasionally you will see the owner's dog - Pippy - roaming about. Our pup loves a visit The Albert, too...especially to lick up crumbs from someone else's meal.
Other reviewers have complained about the toilets. Just don't sit by them as the men's can be particularly smelly (esp. if you are watching the sports on tele). The services aren't why you go to a pub, after all. Let the staff know if they need cleaning up/tidying - I'm sure it won't be beneath them. If clientele make a mess they're not going to know to go and clean up after...

The nearest tube is Chalk Farm, Camden Town tube is a similar distance away. . This pub closed its doors in 2015 and was destined to become yet another victim of vulturous developers, thankfully after the tenacity of the local community and councillors this pub reopened its doors in 2020. . The architecture of this pub in quintessential Victorian. This three storey beauty is clad in sumptuous green glazed tiles, painted a pale green and has gorgeous stained glass windows. . Inside the decor is elegant simplicity with subtle Victorian touches. This is a one bar pub with a horseshoe servery taking centre stage. The seating is a mix of comfy burgundy leather banquettes, a poser table and intimate circular tables and stools. At the rear of the pub is a large beer garden with is accessible through a cosy conservatory. . As this is a Freehouse the beer choice was diverse and often rotates. There were two cask ales on at the time of visiting supplied by @leedsbrewery . I decided on a pint of Budvar which was a decent tipple, price point was to be expected. The food is all about gastro-style British pub grub and roasts on a Sunday, Fish & Chips costs ÂŁ16. . The atmosphere was great, the pub was busy and starting to fill up prior to the Portugal v Morocco game. The crowd was mixed and from all generations. I sat next to a nice young couple whoâs puppy was very keen to introduce himself to me. . The @albertprimrose is a superb pub and for me, my favourite pub in Primrose Hill. The building is absolutely stunning and the decor creates a welcoming ambiance which makes having a pint here a pleasurable experience. The beer and food has something for everyone and staff are very personable. Get this pub on your list folks. . âšď¸ Info correct on...
