My friends and I had a great meal at the relatively new (May 2023) multi cuisine vegan restaurant. Everything here is 100% Vegan with dishes representing a combination of Indian, Caribbean, Oriental (Chinese and Thai), Mexican and American fast foods cuisines.
I know that there is a lot to do and see in the Camden market; and there are loads of places to eat. But actually, if you’ve made your way around looking at the vegan options, you’ll know that they are okay but not brilliant. Meat the Vegans is definitely a welcomed gap of good quality food at a good price.
It’s a great place to go with a group of people, especially if they have different tastes in food. Our party chose from mainly “Oriental” but the debate was vigorous indeed. I particularly wanted to spread myself around so I got Plantain, Gyoza and then Pad Thai. Actually mixing dipping sauces with food from different countries worked out pretty well, I discovered. Will definitely do that again. I am planning to have the plantain every time I visit. And I am a sucker for good plantain. Exemplary!
Oh yes… and they had good options for milkshakes; mine was the salted caramel and it was delicious. I would definitely pop in on a hot day and just have a milkshake to cool down.
We were all very happy with our food; it was all well prepared and tasty so a kitchen offering multiple and unrelated cuisines was not a compromise in quality. The atmosphere was good and the service was excellent. I would certainly come again and be happy to bring any group of friends along There is something to service any taste.
You can see through into the kitchen while your food is being prepared and while the meals come relatively quickly somehow everybody in the kitchen seems to be very chilled. We marvelled at how calm the kitchen seem to be when it got busy. They say that it can be rather busy at lunch and dinner, especially over the weekend.
In the insane busyness that Camden can be, it’s a little calm spot to step away that the street food options can’t offer. The restaurant has a fun diner vibe with cheeky art and messages on the walls and an...
Read moreMy family and I visited the restaurant this July and loved it! Despite our late arrival (half an hour before the kitchen closed), we were able to take a seat in the wonderfully typical „M'eat the Vegans“ and were served quickly and in a friendly manner. The food & drink there is wonderful and varied, so that anyone who likes to eat vegan or would like to try it out has a wide choice of multicultural dishes & drinks! (For those who like it: the flavour of certain dishes is also very authentic, such as real meat or fish. So it's also a great opportunity to try vegan food The staff there are friendly, "on their toes" and always up for a laugh. Although we were still sitting in the restaurant shortly before the kitchen closed, they worked quickly and efficiently around us, but never gave us the feeling that we had to leave as quickly as possible. The ambience is stylish, but still has its very own flair. Of course, there are plastic chairs here and there instead of wooden ones, but that didn't bother us at all (especially in combination with the open and otherwise beautiful ambience). All in all, I can only say that we were completely satisfied and have rarely been served such good, high-quality vegan food! „Meat the Vegans“ is an absolute recommendation from me, should you ever be in London (Swiss Cottage) and looking for a restaurant where everything is just right and you can relax and have a good time. Therefore: A clear five stars! Thank you very much, we would love to come back!
Update: We have now been there for a second visit & I can only reiterate my opinion from a few days ago. The food is a dream & the staff there are always...
Read moreWe were quite excited to eat here as the vibe was really nice and the weather was surprisingly sunny. We had just flown in from Australia.
Unfortunately the food portion size and price was really small and expensive. We got a papaya salad and it had zero chilli in it. Which was very disappointing.
To make an already disapointing and underwhelming experience worse while my partner was inside paying the bill, a male waiter that hadn't served us at all came out and stood really close to me and asked how my meal was. I answered nicely but honestly about the lack of chilli (to which he said we do that because people don't like spicy food) he then asked if I could leave them a review which I casually answered that I would. He then continued to stand over me clearly expecting me to do it right there and then. It was super strange behaviour and honestly made me feel uncomfortable. My girlfriend then arrived and he did the same to her whilst still standing over the both of us waiting for us to finish the review. After a couple moments of us awkwardly starting the process of writing a review on our individual phones I pushed past the discomfort of the situation and asked if we'd paid and when I got the reply I simply just stood and took our leave.
He was clearly frustrated that he couldn't successfully pressure us to do the review.
I really hope that was a one off experience but I do wonder how genuine some of these positive reviews are if this behaviour is standard practice or routine at this venue.
We dined here on the 16th...
