One of my very best friends drinks here all the time. He's made loads of friends here. Community pub, a bit popular with old men. Too loud on a Friday/Saturday night for me, but always rammed. Price point superb. Comparable with wetherspoons. I actually prefer their sister pub, the globe, eight minutes away on morning lane which recently had a refurb and also sells Timothy Taylor landlord for less than £3.30 {I was recently informed that the globe is, in fact, not their sister pub and totally unassociated, but similar vibe} crown probably the best location for rooms in Hackney Central. Family run, local business. Better quality than Travelodge or premier inn nearby. Went in today, second time this week. I've started drinking the Newcastle brown ale there, a very reasonable £3.90/pint and I aman adoptive Geordie having gone to school there from the age of twelve. Sat down with Serena (manager) at the crown on the way home. Was on the brown ale again. With their socialist prices, community spirit and offer of laying on tea/coffee, I see no reason why we couldn't host labour party socials or east London cares, the old people's charity I work with. Serena is lovely. The crown is also popular with older patrons in the daytime. They don't have a kitchen, but I'm only five minutes away so could put food on, whether only warm or cold. I've got some great recipes in mind, doubly enhanced by some I got from a German friend of mine who hosted a dinner party recently, exceptional home baked bread with exquisite dips. Could do chana Chaat, pakoras, samosas, salad too. Will send pics of the place in a sec. But it's more than adequate for...
Read moreFriendly staff, smooth check in. I liked my room which was big and cosy on the top floor. The big bed was clean and comfortable and I had the best sleep, I miss it !. Nice decor. There was complimentary tea coffee biscuits and water which I enjoyed. There is storage space, bedside tables, cupboard with drawer. Might need more hangers, I'm sure you could ask. Ensuite bathroom is nice. Shower cubicle is big enough for comfort. Nice shower gel and shampoo provided and hairdryer. Perfect location for my needs with bus stop practically right outside. Staff are helpful, I didn't have enough bathroom supplies on arrival and they sorted it out. I managed to open the window on the warm day and they said they were fixing it. I liked being on the top floor as it was cosy and quiet. However, I am not very fit so going up the stairs was a workout. A soap would be nice in bathroom , I used the shower gel. You can request a room service during your stay. Water pressure meant the shower went off one day but it wasn't long before it came on again and it was lovely hot water. Towels provided. There are shops nearby which is very handy. All in all this place was perfect for my needs and reasonable and so close to the transport I needed. My room was nice , comfortable and relaxing, the staff so friendly and helpful and the...
Read moreWe stayed at The Crown for 2 nights in July whilst we were in London for a short break. The Crown was absolutely perfect for us. From the friendly, warm greeting from Natalie on the day we arrived to the day we departed we couldn’t find fault with anything. We enjoyed atmosphere of a pub that obviously enjoys a good ‘local’ trade while managing to provide a good service for its’ guests. The rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need provided or available on request. The added bonus of a fan was a real plus as the nights were still warm. We were warned about noise from the bar but it didn’t actually disturb us at all and the traffic noise is at a level you would expect in a busy area of London. We thoroughly enjoyed the diversity of the area. Hackney has undergone a resurgence since the days when I was a student nurse here but it has still retained its East End charm and character. There are a couple of excellent cafes close by and if we had had more time we would have happily explored further. Narrow Kitchen and Paelette are both deservedly well reviewed, especially for breakfast/brunch. Transport to central London is fast and easy, even late at night, via tube and overground rail. The Crown is very good value for money and we will definitely stay again when we...
