Visited yesterday, ordered coffee and orange juice. Coffee arrived, orange juice didn’t. When I queried it with the waiter I got a passive aggressive ‘yea it’s coming, I’ll just go put it through’. A minute later the orange juice arrived. Clearly he forgot the juice and that’s fine but no need to be rude about it. We then ordered food and the 40 minute wait began. We observed people come in after us, get their food before us, pay and leave. The cafe literally emptied before we got our food. I’m certain they forgot our order and just rushed it through when they saw us still sitting there. After we finished, the waiter did not clear our plates, ask if we wanted anything else or even offer the bill. We had to just go up to the counter. When asked how everything was, my friend said the service wasn’t great. To which he said yea we are supper busy. Mind you they were not busy, I watched him and the chef leave the shop multiple times and stand around in the kitchen whilst the chef cooked, smelling peppers and eating food the chef prepared. The waiter then said but the food was worth it right. No accountability, no apology. They were not busy. This is the second time we have received a bad service from the young guy here. The first time I asked if I could just have a bacon sandwich (omitting the egg and avocado) his response was ‘erm we can’t change the price’ why was that his go to instead of thinking I just don’t want eggs or avocado? Full of micro-aggressions and bad vibes. It wasn’t lost on me that we were the only people of colour and received such a bad service. I’ve also seen other reviews commenting on the racism experienced in this place and the bad vibes of the staff here. Ironically they advocate for saving the planet but think it’s okay to uphold...
Read moreI lived in Hackney Central for 4 years until last year, and I’ve seen this place going through a lot of changes. Currently, i don’t feel like a place to go often when visiting Hackney Central. Yes, their focaccia is soft and tasty but food selection is limited, and it’s definitely expensive… in my opinion.
Small focaccia with 2x scrambled eggs, 3 cherry tomatoes and pesto oil is £8. Service is not client-oriented, there’s no table service (understandable as there’s only 2x staff serving) but there’s no indication of having to order at the counter, and also no one asks if you’re enjoying your food. I’d advise to reconsider their hot chocolate powder (it’s basic Cadbury) but perhaps it sells… 😉
Positive side is dogs are welcomed, it’s laptop free and has a simple but lovely decor with loads of plants and painted in...
Read moreI just ordered a posh BLT and oh my goodness, it did not disappoint! The one sandwich was massive, no bad thing, so I could easily share it. There was so many dimensions to the food, definitely 'posh'. The cafe and the atmosphere was so lovely too! Very calming and I loved the plants and the natural vibe, it was quiet which was nice too, rather than being overwhelmed by people.
I did read in prior reviews about Narrow Kitchen being overpriced, but I disagree. Their products are the standard market price but the quality of the product is what keeps you...
