Friday the 13th I weaved along Great Ormond street on my bike counting the Georgian house numbers in search of the Espresso Room which had been on my “destination treat list” ever since it featured in the ES, July 2010. No bike rack nearby but their neighbour’s railings are welcoming. It really is just a room! in the caring hands of outstanding staff, service is warm and efficient and accessible to all who enter this cosy roost. Regulars arrived for their 4 o'clock caffeine revival hugging their keepcups. A silky smooth Macchiato £2.40 with a freshly baked almond chocolate cookie £1.60 were accompanied by a complimentary glass of water. Wooden benches are shared creating a convivial rapport amongst the clientele. A coffee experience that got me in the mood for an evening at La Champagneria in Barcelona.... how can coffee do that to you? First class coffee and five star hospitality, a very...
Read moreI am a regular there. The coffee served at The Espresso Room is quite distinct from anything else I've tried. I am a relative novice coffee drinker (3 years), but a purist: straight coffee, no milk, no sugar. In all of its aromatic forms, combinations and rituals of serving, it is an uplifting experience not many other can rival. And nothing lifts my spirits higher than discovering people who appreciate and value it as much as I do. I've been fortunate enough to find such people at The Espresso Room.
They serve, definitely, one of the best coffees I've ever tasted. I like an espresso in the morning to get me going and throughout the day I appreciate all forms of coffee/milk combinations. Their espresso is smooth, rich and well textured but without any trace of bitterness, and the flat white is simply heavenly with rich foam and sugar poured in advance so you can enjoy the beautiful design created by the...
