Trainee reception person 'greeted' us with a 'your room is not ready' (false), 'can I have a credit card to take the security deposit' and 'do you need help getting to your room'. The location and times for breakfast would have been helpful. The Wi-Fi password would have been helpful (could not locate it anywhere, had to ring Reception). Travel agent ordered double room and asked for twin beds. This was a mistake as the double room turned out to be so small you could not open even 1 suitcase in it. I was travelling with my teenage daughter and I could not see how we would stay in such small space. The wall was coming in halfway up the second window blocking half the view to make room for the next room. The hotel reception person did not get out of her way to help us: it was upgrade to King room (GBP 40 per night extra) or stay where you are. Kind of 'your mistake, nothing to do with us, you get what you get and you don't get upset'. The King room was barely bigger. Had to move the furniture to open the 2 suitcases on the floor. The wardrobe door could only open half way as it was hitting the room door bracket. We had included breakfast in the room reservation - very underwhelming for the price. Need to pay GBP4 for 2 waffles or 2 pancakes. Eggs on order come on top of dry toasted bread by default. There was no shower gel in the bathroom and we made a request for some at the front desk. Back in our room after breakfast, the room service person just barges in with a new bottle of shower gel without even knocking . Who does that!? There is an optional 'turn down' service where room service personnel prepare the room for the night. Sounds good except when someone knocks on your room door at 4.20pm to ask if you want them to shut the blinds and redo your bed. A tad early during UK summer when the sun is still up and shining in the afternoon. Just weird really! The hotel is old and probably not meant for so many guests. Floors have been divided into many small rooms with dividing walls blocking some of the original windows. The floorboards are creaking so much that you can hear guests walking up and down the long and narrow corridor that smells of mold. You can also hear the guests walking around their room on the floor above. At times I thought someone was coming into our room, that's how loud the sound was. The plumbing is not coping either. I have not found a sink which drains properly. Drainers have been removed or popped up to help the drainage, even in the lobby toilets. I found it very hard to get the water to anything other than boiling hot in the bath/shower (good luck stepping into the bath to take a shower if you have balance issues). The tap did not seem to respond when I turned it...
