🚇 Hyde Park Corner 🍺 £6.70 Moretti ❤️ A charming London boozer with a story to tell. . On a secluded cobbled street in the heart of Belgravia, you will find The Grenadier pub. The nearest Tube is Knightsbridge which is a five minute walk away. Make sure you walk down atmospheric Old Barrack Yard to get here. . This pub was originally built in 1720 as the officers mess for the senior infantry regiment of the British army, the 1st regiment of foot guards, and located in a courtyard of their barracks. It was opened to the public in 1818 as The Guardsman. . Legend has it that The Grenadier is named after young Cedric, a soldier who was caught cheating at cards and punished by being beaten to death. Visitors hang money from the ceiling in an attempt to pay his debt, but Cedric seems to remain trapped on earth. . The facade of this pub has to be one of the most recognisable in London. This Georgian building with its white walls, blue panels and red door and sentry box, make this pub a desirable one to visit. . Inside the decor is traditional, around the walls are paintings and prints celebrating the history of The Grenadier Guards. At the centre of this pub is an island servery which has beautiful oak panels and lots of brass fixtures and fittings. At the back of the bar are cosy snugs which are predominantly used for dining. Don’t forget to look up at the ceiling to see the multitude of bank notes to pay Cedric’s debt. . The beer choice was good and included four real ales. I decided on a Moretti, my pint was decent and price point was above average. There is plenty of pub grub on offer, Fish & Chips costs £16.50. . I arrived mid afternoon on a Friday and the pub was busy. The atmosphere was relaxed and the ambiance convivial. The crowd was a mix of local workers having an extended lunch break and a fair few tourists from across the pond. The service was good, the staff were attentive and very welcoming. . The Grenadier is full of character and history which makes for an engaging pub experience. I would suggest a mid-week visit and make sure you take some cash for Cedric. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 04.11.22

I went to this pub yesterday with my cousin's for the first time after it was recommended to us by our fellow cousin, Lauren, who couldn't make it to the meal we all had together and I'd definitely recommend coming to the pub if you're looking for somewhere to eat that's a bit off the beaten track. The staff in the pub were really helpful as I'd never been there before and the service was great on the whole, as even though it felt like it was a while before we got served our food it didn't seem that long because of all the talking we were doing. The food was really nice that I had, as I had a burger and chips that were really filling, even though I felt like I had room for dessert afterwards. The interiors of the pub were really interesting too, as I loved seeing the various bank notes on the ceiling, so much so that myself and the rest of my cousin's signed a Japanese bank note that one of my cousin's Nicole had that we stuck on the wall afterwards dated Sunday the 13th of August 2023. I don't think I've ever been to a pub before with bank notes on the wall, which is what makes this pub even more unique than your more normal pubs like Wetherspoons for example. Not that there's anything wrong with Wetherspoons for those reading that like Wetherspoons and are regular visitors. I'd definitely recommend this pub if you're looking for somewhere to eat that's a bit hidden away that has really unique architecture too.

*EDIT* Now demoted to One star: Just noticed our Beef Wellington didn't come with a carrot, unlike the other pictures I see here. Or the "truffled mushrooms" listed on the menu...for 30 pounds just for that one dish, I'm not a happy customer. This experience had the potential to be great, but the Beef Wellington was over-hyped, especially based on all the reviews here - my one chance to get beef Wellington here in London and unfortunately I walked out disappointed. The Beef Wellington Was supposed to be medium rare...but came out dark purple and chewy, insanely rare. Instead of cooking up a new dish, they just reheated the old one which made the dough soggy and made the beef a bit tough. Would have been a 3 out of 5, but the staff was cold and ignored us most of the meal. We ordered a glass of wine, but they opened a whole bottle and brought it to our table instead. After we told them we just wanted a glass, the manager was talking down to the waitress about the mistake mere feet from our table, like we couldn't hear. We felt bad for her so we just ended up buying the whole bottle. So for the service, minus one star.

Really nice find for our latest trip to London. The restaurant is tucked away in a street with embassies and consulates, very close to Hyde park (hyde corner station). We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 beef wellington for 4, along with tea, for £100. Not bad at all for the experience and the quality of each of the dishes. The prawn were fresh and tasty, the mushroom came on a piece of bread and had a nice buttery sauce, and the croquettes were interesting, although the one dish I might not order again. The beef wellington were amazing, with a layer of truffle pate and amazing crust. For £30 and the size, I felt it was well worth it. No need to spend £100 at an expensive restaurant unless that's what you like :) The decoration is very nice, with a classic English military theme and bills all over the ceiling signed by past customers. Gives a great touch. Service was nice, food came out very slowly, so dont come in a rush, wait for the food, it's worth it ^^

Very nice quaint pub nestled in the back streets near Belgravia square. It did not seem to have an easy entrance for those physically challenged as is the case with many historic pubs in London so be aware. It felt like the local area was not even in London, I felt I was in a countryside public house. Very nice change to some of the other pubs I’d visited earlier in the day and definitely more upscale. The pub itself was very nice inside and definitely worth a stop if in the area. Mostly folk seem to be west Londoners from the accents the day we visited for a few pints. It was quite busy so we skipped dinner but in retrospect I think that was a mistake as the food here gets high ratings, so next time I likely will have a meal. The staff who served us were very efficient. Finally, the beer was exceptional, they have a namesake best bitter which I’d recommend, very drinkable! I would recommend stopping by!

While the staff may not be thrilled to have more tourists visit, this place is a well-kept secret that visitors will only discover by accident or with the help of a local—which is how we learned of it. Only went for drinks so no food pictures this time but the tea and beer were excellent. The memorabilia and history throughout this small pub are also amazing and worth a visit—even if it’s to grab a quick drink then nip off back to work. It’s a little out-of-the-way but getting some extra steps in won’t hurt—especially since you’ll likely be getting something alcoholic or deep-fried during your visit. Beautiful location with matching interior and a clean but outdated lavatory, this is a great stop when you need to get away by yourself for a while or spend some time with your best mates. Definitely recommend the in-house beer when you next need a few minutes to yourself.
