If your thinking of a place to enjoy great food , nice wines , excellent friendly service in a fabulous location then allow me to recommend The Lanesborough Grill. This was our first visit here and I can assure you it will not be our last.
We arrived at the Lanesborough Hotel in it’s perfect location on Hyde Park Corner and received a warm and friendly welcome. We were escorted to the restrooms where we could freshen up before lunch. Waiting for us at reception to the Grill was yet another very friendly welcome before being shown to our table. Once comfortable we looked around the dining room which was absolutely stunning with a classic old style feel. We immediately felt so relaxed and this was to continue throughout our time here.
Our lunch got off to an excellent start as we were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne to welcome us to the restaurant. We enjoyed our champagne while browsing through the menu given to us by the lovely Manuela. She along with all the staff were a real credit to the industry. This on a Sunday is a three course menu with a very good selection of starters , mains (including a Sunday Roast) and desserts. If you so wish there’s an opportunity to have a wine pairing with each course. This in the end was what we decided to choose. We started with some bread before moving on to the starters.
STARTERS - To begin I enjoyed one of the best terrines to date. The Pressed Terrine of truffled corn fed chicken with chanterelle aioli and a cheddar brioche was amazing. My wife opted for the Roast Orkney Scallop with sea herbs and a lytham shrimps bearnaise and where the look on her face was enough to tell me how good it was. These dishes were perfectly paired with two fabulous wines. For the scallop a 2018 Grace Madeline from Cullen Wines in Australia and for the terrine a delightfully light and fruity Schaller French Pinot Noir.
Before we moved on to our main course we were in for a really nice surprise as from the kitchen came a complimentary additional course of a Coronation Crab Salad with a curry and lime sabayon which was beautiful. There was even an extra pairing to accompany this dish a 2014 Domaine de Chevalier. This was a fabulous gesture from the team and when we spoke to manager Daniel we asked if he could pass on our thanks to the kitchen.
MAINS - Well if our starters and our extra treat were a delight what was to follow was pure indulgence. My wife chose the Rhug Estate Lamb with roast aubergine stuffed lamb belly , natural yoghurt , spiced lamb and coriander dressing. For myself I went for the Beef Wellington with caramelised roscoff onion , tunworth cheese potatoes , pale ale and honey which was absolutely fantastic. Another two excellent wines were to accompany each dish. The lamb was paired with a 2017 Henschke Barossa and the beef a Torcicoda Primitivo 2020 full of black fruits and chocolate.
DESSERTS - After a nice little break it was time for desserts. My wife though decided to opt for the supplemented Cheese Course where you were able to choose five cheeses from a fantastic selection of British and Irish cheeses accompanied of course by a glass of port. For myself I chose the Caramelised Brioche Pudding with burnt orange purée and buttermilk ice cream and a real delight it was to. This was paired perfectly with a 2017 Jurancon.
We finished with coffee and petit fours to bring to an end an absolutely fabulous afternoon. The food was excellent , the wine pairings were perfectly matched , the staff are so friendly and professional and all this in a stunning location. This is definitely a place I would highly recommend and will certainly not be leaving it very long before I return myself.
The menu on a Sunday is priced at Three Courses for £75 and the Wine Pairings are Three Glasses for £55 and when you consider the quality of produce and the location I easily consider this to be of great value.
Thank You Daniel , Manuela , Shay , Diego , Zilbe for your amazing hospitality and look forward to seeing you...
Read moreAs a belated 60th birthday treat I took my mum for a Cruella themed afternoon tea. From the moment you approach the hotel the experience begins. We were greeted by polite doorman before entering where we found fresh face masks and hand gel to feel as secure as possible. We were then shown by a kind member of the reception staff to the hotel before being seated. The staff are attentive and want to make the experience as special as possible for you. To that end my mum was bought a little cake with a candle as the pianist played happy birthday. This was a such a lovely treat that showed that the staff had really thought of everything. Onto the tea itself, we opted for two of the ‘Teas with a twist’ - the chocolate brownie and the white Choco chilli. The latter is a Chinese white tea that leave a pleasant warmth in your mouth. The teal show stopped was the chocolate brownie that is a black tea you can have with or without tea. This tea was exceptional, it really did taste as if I had eaten a chocolate brownie. Alongside our tea we opted to have the Scene stealer cocktail, which I would recommend to all. The cocktail is deliciously sweet and fun, being served with dry ice to add to the atmosphere. It comes with a spoon/straw to make it easier to drink the cocktail beneath the frothy top. We began our afternoon with the sandwich level. All your traditional favourite finger sandwiches are found alongside a show stopping tartlet. The pastry was perfection, filled with exquisite prawn and squid ink topped with lobster mayonnaise and tomato sponge. Next, we went for scones – severed warm they smell and look amazing. We were not disappointed. The chocolate chip and cranberry scones are light and scrumptious. Served with strawberry jam and cream they are not to skipped in the excitement of the cakes and pastries. Finally, you are created with a layer of beautifully crafted, colourful cakes and pastries. Very on brand these are bright red, black and gold. They truly capture Cruella. These cakes take you on a gourmet journey of flavours from everyone’s favourite chocolate to the less explored hibiscus and violet. The selection is fun – with injectable sauce and tasty. We found ourselves wanting to try everything all at once. Overall, this afternoon tea is exceptional for those of all ages. It has the Disney theme for the young and familiar flavours of chocolate but also the fun cocktail and more mature flavours that make it the perfect afternoon tea to treat your friend, sister, or mum to. I will be recommending this tea to everyone and look forward to seeing what else The Lanesborough has to offer. As someone who regularly indulges in afternoon tea, I can confidently say this is one...
Read moreBiggest disappointment ever! I would most definitely not recommend this place purely based on my opinion of the management and how it is run!
I have booked a special surprise dinner for my husband's birthday on 6th February and I heard back that it is canceled the on 22nd February (only 2 days before the actual dinner). The cancellation reason - the guests of the hotel have problems with returning back home, hence they need to stay for 2 further weeks and require exclusivity. As a result, the restaurant and bar are fully closed for outside visitors for two weeks.
I had a special request in which I explained it is my husband's birthday so to hear that I cannot dine at the restaurant 2 days before my husband's birthday and for me to have to organise at such a short notice a dinner was quite stressful as I didn't have the time to do this. Also, I would like to note that I had a special request in regards to my husband's birthday which no one acknowledged between 6th Feb and 22nd Feb (even on 22nd Feb when the cancellation was sent and I spoke on the phone to the Senior Deputy Restaurant Manager Raffaella Cutolo, she was not aware that it was a special occasion until I mentioned it (no attention to detials whatsoever or personal care)). This is not the service I expected and received previously from other Michelin star restaurants where I dined in the UK and Europe. Not to my surprise, on the same day I read that Celeste lost its Michelin star and was the ONLY restaurant in the capital to have been demoted. It gave me an immense pleasure, I must admit, as they deserve it!
Additionally, I had a booking at the hotel's bar Library for which no one directly contacted me to cancel until I asked. This further solidifies my opinion as to how bad the management of the venue is as a whole.
As compensation for this experience, at first, I was offered complimentary two glasses of champagne, which frankly speaking is almost insulting considering the inconvenience caused for what was meant to be a special dinner for me and my husband. Only after I mentioned the special occasion (which they should have known about from my note), I was offered a bottle of champagne which is also not an acceptable option (we do not drink champagne to begin with).
Thanks for the experience. You most definitely lost a potential regular customer. I have already shared with all my friends and family this experience so they do not make the mistake to...
