The open space in which it stands, now the centre of a large roundabout, was once called Wellington Place. The statue portrays the Iron Duke on a campaign, mounted on his horse Copenhagen, with all hooves planted on the ground. It was executed in bronze by the sculptor Joseph Boehm and unveiled in 1888. The figures at the corners of the pedestal representative British soldiers, a Grenadier, a Scottish Highlander, an Irish Dragoon and a Welsh Fusilier. The statue faces Apsley House, which was Wellington's London home. The bronze statue stands on a plinth of pink Peterhead granite from Stirlinghill quarry, near Boddam, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The grey dais forming the base is made of Aberdeen granite from the Rubislaw quarry, Aberdeen. The bronze came from captured...

A bronze statue of The Duke of Wellington, "The Iron Duke" sitting astride his horse, Copenhagen. The statue commorates the victorious commander of the Allied Forces (British, German, Dutch and Belgian) who alongside the commander of the Prussian Forces, Blucher, defeated Napoleon and his French army at Waterloo in Belgium on 18th June 1815. Of particular interest are the statues of four British Army servicemen who are set at each corner of the monument. They each represent a soldier from each part of the UK at that time. They are an English Grenadier Guardsman, a Royal Welch (Welsh) Fusilier, an Irish Inniskilling Dragoon and a Scottish Highlander. It's definitely worth visiting if you have any interest in the...

The Duke of Wellington Statue was cast in bronze by the sculptor Joseph Boehm, and was unveiled to the world in 1818.

The plinth is made from pink Peterhead granite from the Stirlinghill Quarry near Boddam, Aberdeenshire. The grey dais forming the base is made of Aberdeen granite from the Rubislaw Quarry, Aberdeen. Interestingly, the bronze for the statue came from captured French cannons!

The statue of the Duke of Wellington is shown on horseback. On each corner of the pedistal, as soldier is present from each country from the United Kingdom: a Grenadier, a Scottish Highlander, an Irish Dragoon and a Welsh Fusilier. The Duke is shown facing his old residence, Apsley House, while riding his...

The Duke of Wellington Statue is one of several commemorative monuments found at the southeast corner of Hyde Park. Here you can see a bronze equestrian statue of Arthur Wellesley, known as the Duke of Wellington, famed for his victory over Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo. The statue is surrounded by four bronze infantryman and can be seen near the large Wellington Arch, also dedicated to this legendary figure.
