One Sunday morning recently, I came looking for this Wetherspoons pub as I really appreciate their breakfasts and free refills with their coffee. This place is quite small but I was lucky enough to bag a table which would normally be supposedly suitable for four dwarfs. Having noted my table number and leaving my large coat on the back of one of the chairs I made my way to the bar to place my order - the large full English breakfast, a large chilled orange juice (no ice) and a mug for my coffee.
Fortunately on my return to my table I was pleased to say that nobody else had commandeered it. My order arrived soon and was good as always. You can rely on the consistency of the quality of food and drinks in Wetherspoons establishments.
As I sat enjoying my breakfast I was surprised to see how much foot traffic this place was experiencing. There was a constant stream of people coming in and then, often out again. I relaxed with a couple of refills of cafe latte and then hot chocolate before taking off. Getting them, however, always meant that I ran the risk of losing my table.
I didn't get far out of the place before my table was quickly colonized by some German ladies who had been eyeing me up for some time - to see when I would eventually be leaving -...
Read moreThis place was alright, the location is good, you're in the centre of town. And I guess you can't blame the place for being busy. I can however blame the place for packing in as many tables and chairs as possible. My hair should not be on another couples shoulder. Unlike most Wetherspoons, this one did no have a drinks menu, you had to go up to the front and ask, which for someone like me, with social anxiety, this is a nightmare. Because you have to stand at the bar for a milenia, and when the staff finally get to you, you still have no idea and a queue has formed behind you as you desperately try and work out what you want. I realize this isn't a problem many people face, but for those who do, this wasn't pleasant. Another point that annoyed me was that there only seems to be about 5 caddies for salt, pepper and sauces in the place, and with a pub/restaurant with too many tables to count, this seems a little silly. There also wasn't a station for them, people were just pinching then off now vacant tables, so I guess it's a lottery of you get to salt your chips or not.
As I'm writing this I feel a little harsh but seeing as I've been to this pub twice and both occasions were the same, I feel...
Read moreI recently visited this Wetherspoon pub in central London, conveniently located just seconds away from the Odeon cinema in the same square. The familiar Wetherspoon menu offers a great variety of options at an economical price, though the prices here are roughly 20% higher than what I’m accustomed to at other Wetherspoon locations. Still, it’s quite affordable compared to other dining options in London.
I’ve given this visit a three-star rating for several reasons. Firstly, the pub was exceptionally busy when I visited at around 2:30 PM on a Friday. It was so packed that I ended up sitting next to a fruit machine on what was more a shelf than a table. While the food arrived promptly, the service left a bit to be desired. The server did not inform me about the availability of condiments nor did they check on my satisfaction with the meal—a courtesy I’ve come to expect at Wetherspoon pubs.
The venue did have its positives—the toilets were clean and the coffee machine was well-stocked with a good variety of options. However, the overall experience was just average. The lack of personal touch from the serving staff and the crowded space significantly impacted my enjoyment...
