My partner and I went for lunch on Saturday to The Old Change Bar and Kitchen. The atmosphere in the afternoon was really nice with some other customers and a little bit of background music but not at the level we needed to shout.
My partner had the Wild Boar Sausages with Mash and Green Beans. From the tastes that I had the sausages were expertly cooked being really nice and crisp on the outside while still being moist and juicy on the inside with a gamey flavour. The mash was creamy and smooth, the beans were well cooked as well. My partner really enjoyed the dish.
For my dish I had a small seafood sharing platter. It had some cod, fish cakes, scampi, whitebait and skin on chips. All were very well cooked. The batter on the cod was light, the bread crumbs on the rest were chrisp, the scampi was moist in the mouth, the whitebait was very tasty with the tartare sauce. The chips.. they were on an even higher level being fluffy on the inside really crisp on the outside and just a light dusting of salt.
For 'desert' we tried the cocktails on tap. The Espresso Martini and Strawberry Daiquiri were both really tasty. I could see people enjoying them in the evening or at an event.
Ali and Phoebe were great hosts and I'll be recommending the place...
Read moreThe Old Change has transformed itself since Richard the Bar Manager took over. He especially, and his staff are very welcoming, professional and courteous.
The food is modestly priced for London and it good quality pub food.
The place has a good buzz to it and the crowd is mixed, but mainly the not too young and not too old. More of the professional work types but by no means stuffy at all.
It's very close to St Paul's station with Mansion House nearby and Liverpool Street Station about a 10 min walk (or catch tube). That pretty much covers all the lines I think.
I have started to go there more and more for a lunch and a few drinks after...
Read moreIt's a good venue and space, still no proper outside seating area which is a big miss in such a good spot. Haven't tried the food, but the beer buttered coat sounds interesting.
I was nearly charged £5 per head to reserve a table which seems way off the mark (despite no other tables being reserved / bookings at the same time). Disappointingly we were informed the discount for local business has been reduced to 10% (we were only informed once paying having reserved tables in advance) which has left a bit of a sour taste...
