This place used to be my go to place when I wanted to treat my family and friends for a nice meal out. But it's not what it used to be.
I haven't been there for a while so didn't know that they've changed the menu, instead of having the same price for everything they have different prices for separate things, which is understandable as a 20+VAT for a burger seems like a lot anyway.
I brought my parents over on 12/02 and ordered a big lobster and a small lobster, without saying anything else they were served with lobsters and chips & salad each. I didn't wait until I paid the bill so wasn't aware how the bill turned out to be. They enjoyed the meal and paid the bill so in all a good experience.
However they went there by themselves yesterday(17/02) which is a completely different story. They come from a foreign country and don't speak much English. They rang me to talk to the waitress to order. They ordered one small lobster(as big lobsters are not available then) and a burger. Which is what I ordered. I didn't know chips&salad are extra from Tuesday's experience. Food was served - burger+chips and lobster alone. So they thought something's gone missing. They tried to talk to the waitress to get some salad. They served ketchup+mayo instead, which later seems to be of extra cost. My parents absolutely didn't order ketchup and mayo whatever they can say. They could have said salad? And this is what they were served. I double checked and rang the waitress again for chips&salad. Her excuse was that I have to order them first. But how come the burger was served with chips without me asking?
I would also want to stress that the salad is no where near their usual standard. No onion rings or grated cheese on the top, just a few of spinach. This is what they got!
The waitress obvious didn't care what they wanted. They were obviously tourists and probably won't visit any time soon and that's the kind of service they have received.
Cannot seem to upload pictures for some reason. I'll post...
Read moreBeen to other branches of B&L and always had a great experience. Unfortunately the St Paul’s branch was very disappointing. After a great start with a warm greeting, as a table of six we found out: Starters: 3 asparagus were ordered - the waiter came back to say they only had 2 - one diner had to choose again Mains: 2 chicken burgers were ordered - the waiter came back to say they had no chicken left - two diners had to choose again. Then after five diners received their mains I was told mine would only be a couple of minutes more. My main eventually came when others were more than half way through their meals. Not only that but I had to notify the waiter, when I saw him again, that they forgot the fries. Again he apologized and I got my missing fries. Lastly, when booking the table for six online we mentioned it was for a birthday - no mention of this whatsoever on the day. Other tables had the ‘birthday celebration’ - we had nothing. Towards the end, when the plates were collected, the waiter was really apologetic and then offered us a free alcoholic drink and by that I mean ONE free drink - there were SIX of us - what were we to do? - toss a coin over who gets the free drink? - either you offer to all diners or not at all. Eventually we decline their increased offer of 3 free drinks - it was almost comical. The bill came and the waiter almost expected us to take the service charge off, he said that’s why it’s optional, so we did. We settled the bill and immediately the waiter had no further time for us. From his usual chit chat, he became blunt. Not even a goodbye as we left. Shameful really as the food was actually really good but with so many food establishments in St Paul’s competing for trade, and offering a high level of service to compliment your meal, we...
Read moreMy husband, our eight-month-old baby, and I had the pleasure of dining at Burger & Lobster on Bread Street for lunch, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the staff who had already prepared a highchair for our little one, making us feel right at home.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was fantastic—relaxed yet vibrant, perfect for a family outing. The food was absolutely amazing, with every bite better than the last. But what truly set this experience apart was the exceptional service.
After leaving the restaurant, we realized that we had left one of our baby's toys behind. To our surprise, the staff came running after us to return it! A little while later, we discovered that we had also left behind our baby's favorite chew toy, something that has been with him since birth. By this time, we had already left the city, so we reached out via email, hoping they could find it. Not only did they locate the toy, but Callan, the manager, went above and beyond by posting it back to us promptly. We were so grateful for this unexpected act of kindness—honestly, we didn’t expect them to go to such lengths and thought we might have to return to London to pick it up ourselves.
We can't thank the team at Burger & Lobster enough for their wonderful service and care. It made our day and ensured that we will definitely return on our next trip to London. Highly...
