šĀ Mansion House šŗĀ Ā£6.65 Cruzcampo
The Sea Horse is located in the City of London, close to St Paulās Cathedral. The nearest Tube is Mansion House.
This single storey flat roof pub was built in 1959 and was originally a Courage house. The pub was built at the same time as 20 Canon Street, a six storey office building which rises up behind it.
This is a small but perfectly formed one bar pub that is set out in a semicircle. The servery is located on the back wall and stretches the length of the bar. To the right of the servery is a Dartboard, to the left is a large map of the City of London. The decor consists of a boarded floor, poser tables and stools, a mix of light and dark painted walls plus a few large Tv screens. Overall the pub felt smart and well presented.
The beer line up offers a selection of well known brews and included one cask ale. I opted for a Cruzcampo, my pint was enjoyable, price point was a little punchy. There is no food served here but there are a variety of bar snacks to choose from.
I arrived just after 1pm on a rainy Thursday lunchtime in February. The pub was fairly quiet, there were a couple of punters having a game of arrows, a solo office worker watching the world go by and two sons taking their mum out for a few drinks around the City. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed, the post work session was due to start soon, the pub then gets very busy. The service was great, I was served by a friendly member of the team who was welcoming and chatty.
This pub shows live Premier League and Champions League football on SKY and TNT and also hosts Karaoke on Thursdays and DJās on Fridays.
The City of London has a diverse mix of pubs that range from atmospheric historic hostelries to some fairly bland soulless bars. It was great to see that the City of London has a lesser spotted Flat Roof Pub to visit, this makes this pub very unique. A good choice of beers, a friendly environment and a unique setting make The @seahorse.fleetstreet one to add to your list.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were forced to either buy more alcohol or leave! Security guards approached our table asking us to leave since we hadnāt bought enough alcohol (despite buying a round). There were no grounds for being dismissed out of the venue, and upon saying this the other security guard approached our table also telling us to leave. The barman then also came over and said we need to buy more drinks and how we only bought āthe cheapest drinks availableā- I find it quite disgraceful to be discriminated against because of the price spent on drinks and considering there were other people also sitting at tables who hadnāt bought drinks, for us to be targeted was really upsetting. The manager then came over and reiterated how we had to buy more drinks or leave making us feel uncomfortable and you could tell we were not welcome. Me and my friends are students wanting to have a fun Friday night however felt that it was ruined by feeling...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's Friday night and the zombie apocalypse has arrived. You are searching desperately for somewhere so turgid even the undead are deterred. Somewhere surely no sentient being would find itself. Welcome to The Sea Horse.
The positives: a surprisingly large array of major beer brands on tap and in bottles; two cask ales; music and sport; central London location.
The negatives: a surprisingly large array of major beer brands on tap and in bottles; two cask ales; music and sport; central London location.
One of the staff plugged his phone in to play some kind of EDM with a marimba ringtone remix when his mum rang. The BT sport footage seemed to be encrypted on screen with little hope of finding the key. The major brand beers tasted lifeless and flat although whether that was down to the pub or the brewing remains to be seen.
