I love Kew Gardens. The conservation work they do is incredible, the dedication to protect and help plants and biodiversity thrive in the gardens and across the world. In this review I am of course talking only about the food facilities that happen to be situated in the garden’s. It is a real shame they are not ran by passionate caterers and staff. I took my family to the Orangery and the service was shocking. The set up of this incredible space could be improved. I know they do weddings here so it is possible. My experience here has been varied but todays experience took me to write this review. For a bank holiday Sunday there was not enough staff or at least experienced or helpful staff that proved to want to be there. The service was painfully slow. I can usually tolerate this but the food was not to the usual standard either. It was warm not hot. The price and the quality did not match by a long shot. I will therefore not will not be eating here again. I am very disappointed. I certainly will not be spending money in the restaurants at Kew Gardens again. Pack lunches from now on. I will make direct donations over my membership to the gardens then support these facilities which I feel let the...
Read moreFrustrating. Not keen on leaving poor reviews but felt too compelled in a hope they raise their game. If you approach the cafe from the East there is no obvious customer entrance. As it's a historic building you're unsure whether the glass panelled doors are an entrance or not as they're camouflaged by and flanked with similar looking large windows along the length of the building. It was only when a member of staff popped out of the door that it became apparent we could enter that way. Some signage outside directing you to the entrance doors would be ace. Little choice of food for vegans. No drinks you could purchase that had resealable lids to takeaway with you. Poorly executed throughout. Reminded me of my council run school dinner hall from the 80's. Wish I'd took my dear mum's god awful school lunch box with cheese and salad cream sandwiches and a triangle of diary lea (yes, more cheese!) from way back then instead too. Everything was expensive and tasteless. The toilets were nice (that's the only upside I'm afraid!). Please raise your game as Kew Gardens is wonderful. Stop off at M&S before...
Read moreMy auntie is visiting from Brazil and I took her to Kew Gardens, we've spent the whole day there. We decided to go for lunch at the orangery. I've explained to her about the traditional English roast and she wanted to try. We've ordered two roasts, which cost almost £14.00 and was a children's portion. The parsnips were impossible to eat, because it was that hard and of a horrible taste. I've spoken to the waiter, who told me that he would get me a new one, he came back with a little plate and a portion of parsnips which we couldn't eat either. My auntie was so upset and I was so embarrassed. I've expected a place that charges us that price for a mini roast like that to at least serve decent food. It was just horrible. I feel bad for not taking the food back and asking for my auntie's money back, because it was just disgraceful. Kew Gardens is wonderful, but if you are going there on a trip take a sandwich, snacks and avoid paying the so high prices and eating so...
