The Petite Coree has that lovely local feel that I so often crave from London restaurants, but with the sort of high end food that you cannot leave a bite of. All of the food is vibrant and delicious, combining skilful techniques and innovative flavours that leave you smiling. I had the torched sweet shrimp followed by the pork belly and my friend enjoyed the mandu and the poussin sous-vide. Whilst everything we ate was wonderful, the mandu dumplings were something else. They were packed full of flavour, but delicate enough to be a good warm up dish as a starter. I did get caught reaching across the table to steal another bite from my friend's plate. Simply delectable. The poussin was tender and packed full of meaty flavour, just wonderful and the pork was an absolute winner. The crispy skin and tender meat combined perfectly with the sweetness of the honey glazed carrots and the punch of the carrot and citrus puree. I could eat that over and over again. We finished with a small fight over the panna cotta and the green tea and olive oil cake with black sesame ice cream. Both were wonderful, but the cake was definitely a highlight. It's always a good sign when you're full up before you look at the desert menu, but end up racing your guest to the last mouthful. I'd definitely recommend a visit. It's privately owned by the head chef and his wife, so it's a really personal experience and you can tell they really care about what...
Read moreI spent one year in London and during this time I ate at The Petite Corée at least 20 times ( excluding when I ordered from them via Deliveroo ).
The restaurant is clean and cosy, the staff is attentive, very helpful and nice. And above all, the food is amazing.
I saw a few comments about the prices being too expensive, which I disagree with ( except concerning the beverages but it’s London so it wasn’t that shocking to me ). One time I went there with a friend and we had two different types of meat ( barbecue ) + a chicken bibimbap + two rice bowls and in total we payed around £40 which I found really reasonable for two people and the quantity and quality of the food that we got.
Additionally what I really recommend there is the bibimbap. I visited South Korea two years ago and The Petite Corée is the only Korean place that I found in London which serves an authentic and delicious bibimbap. The portion is generous and the gochujang sauce that can be added to it is amazing ( not too spicy but still makes all the difference ).
Honestly I can’t recommend this place enough, the kimchi jeon is also a killer, as well as the fried chicken and japchae, amongst others ( the side dishes are all very yummy too ).
As a fan of Korean food, I really advise everyone to go there. The price matches the service, quality...
Read moreThis restaurant serves popular European dishes with a Korean twist. I have now eaten my way through their entire menu (several times over) and haven’t had a single bad meal.
No visit is complete without an order of Mandu (steamed pork & glass noodle dumpling, rocket, balsamic), £6. This dish is as Asian as they come, with the rocket and balsamic hesitant European sidekicks to the dumplings, the delicious stars of the dish.
Their version of arancini swaps the traditional filling for kimchee flavoured rice with mozzarella and served with gochujang dressing, £5.5.
Another favourite is the Italian cheese appetizer with honey and a spicy Korean sauce, £5. I’ve had this with mozzarella, burrata, and most recently with pecorino cream cheese – all luscious, moreish and so very clever!
Fresh on the menu is a Smoked Sword Fish, £6, with fish chunks that come wrapped in gem lettuce, drenched in a zingy wasabi & lime dressing and shiso. Then there is a butter roasted “Kimchee”, £5. One could spend the entire meal just on their appetizers, as I often do.
On the rare occasion I order a main it is always the pork belly in Korean BBQ jus (£13.5). Chefy terms aside, this is one of the best preparations of pork I have ever had the joy of tasting. If I was one to make lists this would be on my London top 10 without...
