🚇 Bethnal Green 🍺 £4.10 Amstel ❤️ A traditional East End boozer. . The Shakespeare is located at the eastern end of Bethnal Green Road. Bethnal Green tube station is only a three minute walk away. . Built in 1842 and clad in original Truman’s green tiling, The Shakespeare is probably the most eye catching pub on Bethnal Green Road. . This is a small one bar pub which has a bright and modern interior. The tiled servery is a good size which pretty much runs the length of the pub. The seating is a mix of low level banquettes and chairs plus stools around copper topped poser tables. This pub shows live sport on the three large screens dotted around the bar. To add a splash of colour, there are floral decorations around the ceiling. . The beer selection was straightforward with familiar mainstream brands. I had a pint of Amstel, my pint was great and only cost £4.10 which is a rare treat these days. . I arrived just after midday on a Saturday lunchtime to watch the Arsenal v Everton first half. The pub was fairly busy with a local crowd in attendance. The atmosphere was relaxed and there was loads of banter going on around the bar with lots of cackles and laughter. Even though I wasn’t off the manor, I felt welcomed and enjoyed the vibe here. . The @shakespearepub_e2 is a proper East End pub full of local characters that welcomes one and all. The exterior of the pub is stunning and draws you in with its beautiful tiled facade. The beer is good and the cheapest in the area. As traditional East End culture is slowly being eroded, it was great to visit a pub where it still flourishes. Get your arris’ down here and enjoy this traditional East End boozer. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 04.02.23

A chance visit to The Shakespeare in Bethnal Green. Lovely people in a simple but welcoming pub. A lovely lady behind the bar, more than a match for any customer. However, a caskless pub so real ale drinkers won't be happy. I had a great pint and enjoyed the banter and feeling of the pub.

If I could give less than one star I would. The staff were absolutely disgusting to me. I was desperate to use the toilet so I went in the pub and as soon as I went in the staff gave me dirty looks and even the public using it felt they had the authority to order me about, the manager proceeded with great hostility to tell me to basically leave out of there and I said to her what if I buy a drink she said no you’re not. I tell you I have never been made to feel like an outsider so much in this country. I was treated like I was a piece of dirt in their shoe, the tone, body language. The manager is condescending, patronising and arrogant. I am 100% sure if I wasn’t wearing a headscarf this wouldn’t have happened. Absolutely awful experience and I was left in tears. Even worse all the people drinking decided to join in the hostility and tell me to leave...

We went here hoping to get a drink but couldn’t see anyone at the bar, it was very difficult to work out who even worked there. 🤷‍♀️

We decided to use the toilet in the meantime… after we came out, there were still no staff at the bar. We had a call from our friend letting us know of an emergency so wouldn’t be meeting us. Us being very worried we left, we were then shouted at very rudely by a woman who apparently worked there (wasn’t obvious at all) that we should have asked before using the toilet.

Very very rude staff and not clear on who was working and who wasn’t. Even if we did just want to use the toilet we wouldn’t have been able to find the staff to ask. 😞 Definitely won’t be going back...
