This burger spot is just a simple yet stylish hole in the wall restaurant. The menu is rather compact, making your choice(s) relatively easy.
The staff wasn't overly friendly, but the ordering process was painless, and the food came out in a timely manner.
While this place is higher end than your typical fast food chain, it is still fast casual dining. They did ask how we wanted your burger cooked ("medium" vs "well"), and I thought that was a nice touch. Also, Bleeker has beer on tap and a variety of other beverage options.
The burger itself was savory, and the bun less dense than I anticipated. The components are relatively simple patty(s), onion, burger sauce, and buns. You have tomato, mustard, and mayo in bottles at your table. The burger sauce is incredibly delicious. The fries are at least double fried and offer a nice crunch. Again, the bun was so airy, and the burger so simple yet delicious I could have easily eaten another patty. I should have ordered the double cheeseburger.
I did like that there were wooden disposable forks available for the saucy fries. Also, the burgers and fries came in sleek little to-go boxes.
Some tips:
There are 3 locations in the city, so, check and see which location is closest to you. Order the House Fries. These are double fried fries smothered in their creamy burger sauce. If you order "well done," you may want to specify if you don't want any pink, as two people in our group ordered burgers "well," and there was noticeable pink in the patties.
I know it might seem tacky to get hamburgers in London, but this spot came highly recommended, and now I know why. Definitely try local London foods, but if you get a craving for burgers... go...
Read moreI have to give a very honest review here. So I visited one of the branches after hearing specifically from bar and restaurant owners (including the owner of Bleecker himself) how this place was the best burger joint in London. I knew this place was popular but for a Tuesday evening, I did not expect it to be heaving like a Friday/Saturday night. The place is small and casual with a cool mural on the wall. Ordering was quite painful. You can only order using their screen not through a person. There were a few people in-front of me and one guy took around 10 minutes to order which was frustrating. When I eventually got to order, (which took a minute and I was in a rush) it got a bit awkward for me as I just stood in the middle of the shop waiting. Once I got my order and left, I was keen to try it and was disappointed when I saw my burger swimming in grease. There is juicy and there is greasy and my gosh when I took a bite it was just plain. No flavour at all. I got the double cheese burger which came with a bit of sauce and a bit of onion. Nothing else. It came I think medium so less cooked than I wanted but been over 24 hours now and thankfully didn’t get sick. The patties were kind of thick making it quite filling but definitely NOT WORTH £12.25! They all put down Five Guys including the owner saying its overrated but it is way better and cheaper with more variation than this place. Utterly disappointed by following the hype again shown on social media where they have to make it seem better than it is to bring in customers. I personally would not recommend and would say this place is overrated but for those wanting to try I would go at at a quieter time, if...
Read moreI love what Bleecker used to be: London's best burger. I loved it so much that, in 2017, I got a job in their pop-up location in Waterloo so I could learn how the magic happened.
Sadly, my recent visit to Bleecker Victoria was an enormous disappointment. The burgers were juicy but VERY overseasoned. This was a huge shame as I brought a friend on holiday from America to try what I had hyped up as the best burger in the city. It was so salty that my friend had to go back into the store to ask for lettuce on his double cheeseburger to counteract the excess. We even went at a less busy time to ensure the grill chefs weren't pressured - I've noticed in my visits over the years that the quality can be lower during peak hours - so there really was no excuse.
I'm afraid this is part of a larger downwards trend, and that they now survive by coasting on the hype of a few years ago. If I'm being honest, I don't know if they're ever going to recover their former glory, especially since they swapped beef suppliers. I know for a fact that their previous supplier sold beef that could legally be cooked medium rare, but since they've changed to a new supplier and been required to cook their burgers medium, it's not been the same. I can only speculate that this is a cost-savings decision.
I write this last sentence with a heavy heart: go to Honest Burgers instead; it's now better value.
EDIT: It has been TWO MONTHS since the owner 'reached out' in the comments with their email. I messaged them accordingly but have had no reply. Irritating to see what seems like PR management/window dressing without any follow-through. I'm even LESS likely to bring friends...
