Extremely disappointed with my visit. I travelled quite far to get here, mainly based on the hype from Instagram, but this appears to be one of those places that has a cult social media following and the reality doesn't match up to that.

I arrived at about 3pm on a midweek day, and there was barely any food left. No hot rolls and most sandwiches gone so I couldn't get what I came for. I was told that most things run out by midday, but if this is a known issue (as reported by other reviewers too) why not start ordering more stock/produce in to stop this happening?

I ordered a scotch pie, which had raw mince meat inside. There was no taste of the usual spice or pepper that should come with a scotch pie, it genuinely just tasted like I was eating raw mince. Had two bites and couldn't stomach anymore.

I also ordered an empire biscuit, which was pretty big, so I was looking forward to it. However, it was so incredibly buttery and the jam so insanely sweet that it was a really sickly experience. I normally love unhealthy, guilty pleasure food, but I can't understate how much this tasted like eating a block of sugary butter.

I'll give credit where credit is due, as I had a Christmas chicken sandwich, which was pretty good. I was hoping to get the beef sandwich, but this had sold out, so I got the last remaining chicken one.

I found the service to be slow and the staff seemed disinterested overall.

It's a real shame, as the food looks unbelievable in their photos on social media. I really wanted to love this place, but I can't see myself...

The Shoap - 11 am on Sunday - had no one in the queue when we arrived and ordered 1 sandwich and a mac and cheese pie. We were given the pie right away and stood to the side. Efficient - we thought.

We soon came to realise that the majority of people sitting down did not have food, and 15 minutes later we became concerned that it would be a long wait.

They proceeded to bring out 1-2 sandwiches every 10 minutes. I think we waited in total about 35 minutes. I lost count, it might have been longer.

There was no apology, we were standing that whole time. They continued taking more orders and the store got busy.

I was thinking the whole time my mac and cheese would go cold so I started to eat it standing up in the Shoap.

We finally got the singular sandwich and took it outside.

Taste of the mac and cheese pie - very good. As far as mac and cheeses go it’s nice - cheesier than some. And the pastry was nice. I only wish they provided some hot sauce on the side as an option.

The sandwich was fine. Bread was too big for the sausage. The first time trying this sausage and it was more sour than I expected - tasted mustardy. It was like spam meets corned beef. It wasn’t particularly hot.

Not sure if it was an off day, but I can’t say I’d go here again unless I really wanted some mac and cheese in the area.

Lots of Scottish groceries too - tablet,...

Nestled in the charming neighborhood of Angel, The Shoap proudly stands as a beacon of Scottish culinary excellence in the heart of London. As the first Scottish cafe in the city, it boasts a unique and authentic dining experience that transports patrons straight to the bonnie shores of Scotland.

For those seeking a hearty start to the day, arriving early is key to securing a taste of The Shoap's most iconic dish: the Breakfast Roll. Renowned far and wide, this delectable creation is a true Scottish delight, featuring a generous serving of savory goodness nestled within a warm, fluffy roll. Whether enjoyed with a pint for a traditional Scottish touch or paired with a steaming cup of coffee or tea for a more subdued start, the Breakfast Roll is a must-try for any visitor.

But the delights of The Shoap extend far beyond its signature dish. With an impressive selection of pies and pastries that showcase the best of Scottish cuisine, every bite is a culinary journey through the Highlands.

Whether you're a homesick Scot longing for a taste of home or simply a curious foodie eager to explore new culinary horizons, The Shoap promises a warm welcome and a truly unforgettable dining experience. So why not indulge in a taste of Scotland right here in London? Your taste buds...

For someone who's somewhat obsessed with Scotland, I was over the moon when I found out that The Shoap would open just one week before my trip to London for the Orkney Folk Festival weekend. Went straight there from the airport and enjoyed the best scran you could ask for outside of the Scottish borders. Had a crunchy roll w/ a square sausage (managed to get one of the last ones before the delivery) and a tattie scone. It took me a solid 3 minutes to finish it and realise I could have eaten two more. Tasty, crunchy, perfectly cooked sausage and the softest scone. In hindsight, I regret not having added any sauce, very dumb decision. Service is great, warm and welcoming everyone in line was just showering Gregg with love and compliments—as it should be. If you're lucky enough, you can sit down and enjoy your rolls, pies and pints watching the delivery guy unload pallets of IRN BRU and Tennent's beside the deli shelves, which are filled to the brim with anything Scottish you could think of. Sgoinneil!
