We were a group of five people, we arrived early just after the restaurant open at 1230, before the restaurant got busy, we had the opportunity to meet the chief chef. Apparently he is a very experienced and well established chef trained & specialised in Sichuan cuisine, he is also interested in other Chinese cuisines, he used to work in some landmark Chinese sichen restaurants in London, included a Michelin restaurant in London.
This restaurant has recently changed management and the kitchen staff, he is the newly appointed master chef! He talked passionately about making good food and how to pair them with different alcoholic drink. We felt very honored as he showed us the kitchen and told us how he upgraded it into a professional kitchen, what I saw is a clean and hygienic kitchen which is most important for me. The waitressing staff don't seem to be from Sichuan but I think the chef is. After a welcoming tour of the restaurant, we told them some of us can't manage the Sichua spicy hot food! The staff assured us they can adjust the level of spiciness accordingly to suit the customer's ability. We didn't have to wait long before the food arrived, it proved that the chef kept his promise, the level of spiceness varies from dish to dish, they serve our different spicy tolerance. The food is so flavoursome, unlike most spicy food in other restaurants that usually numbed my taste buds and I couldn't tasting anything but heat. I could taste the flavours of all the ingredients which mean the food had been well marinated with varies spices, the food here is just so delicious that I couldn't stop myself eating although the chillies were making me sweat. I highly recommend the beef jerk, the most tender jerk I have ever eaten. They made it themselves from scratch, not from instant jerk packages. You can order one to dine in and an extra one to take away, don't miss the jerk if you like beef. The roast fish is another highlight, its made generously with many other ingredients, ie. lotus root, black mushroom, potato... you won't get the funny fish smell. Same as the duck blood dish, I don't normally eat blood but this one is so delicious, you can only taste the smooth texture of the coagulated blood, no unpleasant smell. Sweet and vinegar ribs, they are from heaven!! Another dish I recommend is the fried rice pudding dessert, it put a perfect ending to our dinning experience.

📍 Location: 15 Leigh Street, Camden, London, WC1H 9EW
My friend and I, both with huge appetites, recently visited this incredible Sichuan restaurant, and we were absolutely blown away! The food was not only delicious but also came in massive portions that left us stuffed (and we even had leftovers to take home!). 🥢🔥
✨ What We Ordered: ✅ Prawns as Big as My Hand – These were HUGE, packed with flavor, and covered in spicy chili. The meat was tender and juicy, and every bite was pure happiness! ✅ Boiled Fish in Chili Oil – The fish was silky smooth, and the broth was perfectly spicy, numbing, and fragrant. We couldn’t resist mixing the sauce with rice – it was heavenly! The tofu and cabbage as side dishes were the perfect complement.
🍚 Pro Tip: The rice portion looks like one bowl, but it’s actually enough for two! We ate until we couldn’t move and still had enough to pack up.
💡 Why We Loved It: Service: Super friendly and attentive. They even provided free WiFi, charging ports, and clean restrooms. Convenience: They accept WeChat Pay, and there’s free parking after 6:30 PM and all day on Sundays! Value for Money: At just over £20 per person, this is an absolute steal for London. The quality and quantity are unmatched!
📅 Pro Tip: Go around 5 PM to avoid the crowd and get your food super fast!
This place is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Sichuan food in London. We’ll definitely be back – and you should too! 🏃♀️🏃♂️

Read moreWhen I lived in Holborn I visited Chilli Cool at least once a week. By the way, the proper name of the restaurant (in Mandarin) is "Old Chengdu Restaurant." The food is as close to Chengdu style Szechuanese food as one is likely to find anywhere outside the Central Kingdom. Now I live far away from London, but I still visit a few times a year. I am delighted to say that even with the Pandemic and the supply-chain problems (thank you, Boris, for contributing to our general misery), Chilli Cool's standards have not slipped a bit. For the best Ma Po Tofu I've had outside Chengdu itself (just the right balance of flavours, and the precise calibration of "heat") go to Chilli Cool. But be sure to range beyond the obvious, and don't be squeamish about offal and such. This is what the good people of Szechuan eat, and their food is famous around the world. Be adventurous. If you have a group of at least three/four, try the Hot Pot, a ritual as much as a meal. I am not a huge fan of HP, but it's worth doing at least once -- however, but you MUST be very hungry, have a lot of time, and go with only your best mates. BTW, the service is not the grumpy sort of service familiar from Chinatowns around the world. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable, and happy to make suggestions. Listen to them; they know of...
