I would not consider myself a regular to the Izakaya, but I have been here for quite a few lunches and first time tonight for their dinner service.
Every time I have eaten out of Uoichi, I have always enjoyed the superb and amazing food and hospitality shown by the chef/owners.
The attention to detail to each of their dishes is an absolute art! To the taste, plating, and even to their portion sizing!
The careful hand selection of ingredients and produce really shines in quality and simplicity in the best way.
The quality is shown by the appreciation of the dishes being prepped and made. The array of different decorative plates used to present the food on. Fresh ingredients and produce? You bet!
Simplicity, the produce and ingredients speak for themselves, the quality and freshness creates its own depth of flavours, if paired with their own condiments, then there is a whole new level of flavour intensity waiting for you!
Portion is small, but by far not a criticism and in fact is an optimum way to appreciate the dishes, too big of a portion and you'll lose the excitement and enjoyment.
Table service is bar none fantastic! The kindness, respect and hospitality given is topnotch. Thorough knowledge and details given to each dish, tips to pairing the foods together and overall very easy have a chat with.
I don't drink which is indeed a shame on my behalf, but the restaurant shows it's spirit as an izakaya with many options to alcohol to choose from, if you're a drinker, I'd say try out the highball stuff, only way to be inclusive yet exclusive to the spirit.
But enough with the pretentious gibberish, final verdict.
Highly recommend, this is a restaurant that deserves the pilgrimage! I will definitely be back very soon!
Thank you for the food!
Food I had tonight:
Grilled Smelt - with roe inside with a Kewpie mayonnaise sauce, on the side - MUST TRY!
Rib-Eye Steak - paired with soy sauce au jus and Yuzu pepper on the side
Monk Fish Liver (Ankimo) - MUST TRY
Tuna and Toro sashimi - MUST TRY
Deep Fried Sweet Shrimp
Deep Friend Chicken Wings
Green Tea Ice Cream - with mochi and red bean topping
Blanched Squid Tentacles - with salt and sesame oil dip (Not on the menu, but if you're lucky enough to try it, you won't be disappointed)
There is a reason why this izakaya is highly rated and praised because the restaurant gives it's full effort daily to help the community to taste what food from home has to offer, and hopefully this will be one of the many reviews that gives this little restaurant the appreciation it really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTucked away in the quiet Docklands, Uoichi is a true gem for anyone craving authentic Japanese flavors in London. I had the pleasure of trying a variety of dishes here, and every plate delivered both in taste and presentation.
Monkfish Liver A rare find in London and done exceptionally well here. It had that perfect melt-in-the-mouth texture with just the right balance of umami. If youāre into adventurous Japanese cuisine, this is a must.
Bara Chirashi Donš± Fresh, vibrant, and generous. The sashimi cubes were delicately seasoned and beautifully arranged over well-prepared sushi rice. Each bite offered a mix of textures and flavors. Easily one of the highlights of the meal.
Deep Fried Chicken⨠Juicy, crisp, and well-marinated, it came out piping hot, and the batter was light but still crunchy. Great with a squeeze of lemon or dipped in mayo.
Grilled Salmonš„ Simple, clean, and expertly cooked. The skin was crisp, while the flesh remained moist and tender. It let the quality of the fish speak for itself.
Salmon Roe with Cream Cheeseš§ An indulgent, creamy-salty bite that worked surprisingly well. The burst of the roe against the richness of the cream cheese created an interesting balance. A great fusion-style treat.
Overall, Uoichi stands out not just for its quality but for the care put into every dish. Prices are fair for the quality, and the staff are polite and attentive. Highly recommended for Japanese food lovers looking for something beyond the usual fare.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to REALLY like this restaurant and often recommended it to friends and family, but today Iāve decided not to come back anymore. On one visit with my family, we were told the restaurant was full, but the lady staff didnāt ask if weād like to wait or offer any alternatives. She didnāt try to keep us. (I thought maybe it was just a one-off occasion I understand that it happens.) However, today I visited again for takeaway at 12pm (opening time) and the same lady staff hesitated for a while before telling me that they only serve takeaway from 1pm, even though there was only one table of customers inside and the other staff were just standing there waiting for orders.
As someone who also works in customer service, I always do my best to accommodate customersā needs whenever possible. Sadly, I donāt feel that same effort or flexibility here, which is very disappointing given how much I used to like this place. I understand that every business has its house rules, but as a customer I didnāt feel valued or that she attempted to help me at all. So today, Iāve decided I wonāt go back anymore, and I will share this story with my...
