Roe restaurant has Sky high prices so my expectations was high from a new opening,we all went home disappointed, I am not recommending the place and also we won't return. The disappointment comes from multiple reasons, first of all I would like to point out that this venue is a new opening in the heart of Canary Wharf and the society and clientele is not just as average as in any east London sites, expectations are higher for the quality of Service and also for the culinary part. We book for a Sunday Birthday lunch with very dear friends of our, we mentioned multiple times that we wish to try couple of dishes especially the Onion Flower , so we been told is all fine as Sunday a la carte menu runs trough the day...yep it wasn't, it was a limited Sunday a la carte with many dishes not available and also no Onion Flower so Roe signature dish never been tried and it won't be from now on, dear Reception team please make sure you do a better training on what menus are available and when people comes for certain food and not just for brunch they not get the disappointment as we did. I will start my review with the Venue as a location and interior: Roe is located by the canal with a great view of the beautiful Canary Wharf, terrace is all around the restaurant comfy seats and good size tables, interior has a great simplicity with modern design, open plan kitchen, wine cellar looks great from inside and outside, the living herb wall is a great idea when it comes to sustainability also knowing that some dishes get freshly cut herbs, yes is a small detail we all like when it comes to presentation of the food, how ever the washroom is a big No No as is a common area and being a Female I do not wish to share this moment with any men( no offence for the other gender) but I found this moment more intimate and more feminist, i still believe that common washrooms are not to protect privacy and dignity of either side of your clientele. Also staff uniform is not very professional, waiters are wearing street clothes, them own ones i assumes as they dressed on them own style and they have in common an apron which looks not adecvate to this place. Food: very average and over priced, starters where cheese donut with lardo small, not enough cheese but lardo was nice, padron peppers are nothing to say about is just grilled pepper with condiments, oysters nice and fresh, well presented and tasty, crab flatbread is a mini pizza sprinkled with Dorset crab chilli and basil , very little crab more bread to this dish. Main course: Sunday roast beef, the beef ramp was well cooked but the roast potato was very dry and no flavour of goose fat at all, kale is bleached than salt and pepper, heritage carrot just for design, swede mash was ok.Yorkshire pudding flat and dry. The Pork roast is similar to a porcheta but very overpowered by the herb mix from the middle, crispy pork skin nice and fat crunch on top also tasty.Gravy was bitter, and very overpowering. Sriracha mussels well presented but half did not open so I assumed they weren't as fresh as they supposed to be considering they are shelfish, we requested couple to be replaced the unopened mussels to avoiding any food poisoning, this been done in no time and our guest could enjoy a little more, we appreciate the effort.Regarding the Steak dish that is a big disappointment as our guest is a proper steak eater and his steak it was not a steak more i would call it 2 small piece of grilled meat with some jus on it, we did not requested any jus for the steak so I would recomend to send the jus on the side as not everyone like that poured all over the meat. Dessert: Black Forest tart, so that is not a black forest, is a chery chocolate dessert, please don't call it BF tart as is a great disappointment for dessert lovers who knows what a black forest should be, the tart was tasty but is a waffle cherry cholcolate tart. I would like to special mention that it was my husband birthday and I mention this when booking was made , I did not requested any birthday plate because he was with me when...
Read moreI would like to point out couple of things why I am giving 1 star on service, booked a Sunday birthday lunch for my self and my friends.First of all the booking been made according to the sunday menu which I been told that is running running all day as an a la carte and also brunch, great surprise there was just a limited a la carte menu only and we only went there because we wanted to try couple of new dishes but wasn't available, we very much wanted to try that Blooming Onion dish but wasn't available, i am expecting the reception team to have a better knowledge on what a Sunday a la carte menu is as people don't want to waist them time eating average Sunday roast and make sure you mentioning that sunday a la carte menu is limited. Food average nothing special, very limited starter size dishes, we tried the cheese donut with lardo, very small and is more dough than cheese to it, still my wife like it, half a dozen of oyster nice and fresh well presented, padron peppers tasted like anywhere else nothing new nothing special is a padron pepper so not much expectation, doreset crab flatbread with chilli tomato and basil is a mini pizza with sprinkle of crab, is more bread than crab to it. Main corses: Sunday roast very average, roast potato dry and hard, kale and swede mash was ok ,gravy tasted bitter the Yorkshire pudding was dry and flat. The pork sunday roast is simillar to a porchetta but is very over powered by the herbs ,cant really taste the pork more the herb mix, Shiracha mussels half was not open so we had to send them back as it was impossible to open them, they send another round, she eated it alone as we all finished already our mains, the steak was the weirdest steak I ever saw, 2 piece of thin meat mustard and some jus, dissapointing as the person who ordered the steak is a proper steak eater and yes he was very dissapointed. Dessert: Black Forest tart ,it is nothing to do with black forest this dessert is a waffle chery compote chocolate ice cream dessert with tonka bean cream and coco nibs, looked good tasted good but don't sell it as a Black forest tart because is not.hey ho...table service had lots of issues, all food came out separately, nothing came together or in the same time, the drink service was also not high end comparing to the fact that prices are sky high on drinks,is a lot more to work on it for the members of the staff. we ordered a Tokaj dessert wine wich in the end wasn't exactly what it supposed to be so we sent it it back, and of course they put it it on the bill in the end, I mean seriously how can you charge for something which haven't been consumed and also was a mistake of the waiter.the sommelier recomended us a Tokaj dessert wine which they selling only by bottle, Tokaj dessert wine you can't have more than a Tulip glass size as is extremly sweet so one bottle would definetly take you to the diabetic center.the customer toilette is a common space so male and female customer atte d the same place, I did not like that as I still believe females needs more space and more intimacy when it comes to toilette space, also is no pissoir so is not the most comfortable to urinate.the waiters uniform needs to be upgrated they wearing street clothes with an appron, all dressed differently, that looks very unprofessional.the venue is nice inside and outside please pay attention to this details as it makes the venue more high valued.i am very dissapointed as we expected a classy service and quality time, it was my birthday and I mention this when I booked my table of course nobody noticed it or did anything about it so yes I am dissapointed and I won't return ,neither recomend this place to anyone. PS to the manager who came out and put his hands on my shoulder and wish me Happy Birthday in the most sarcastic style ever, after realising they missed my birthday note, making your clients happy is your responsibility but if you miss the little details at least don't be rude and make me feel embarassed on front...
Read moreProvided incorrect portion of food, potatoes over cooked to the point they could not be cut and roast not served all at once…. Pictures from someone else’s review on Google reviews to illustrate my point…
I was left feeling particularly puzzled by the portion of food I received on Sunday evening for four beef roasts that my table ordered. However, having looked at other reviews and photos online, I can see we were given a significantly insufficient portion for what we ordered and should have received.
Firstly, I would like to say that the staff were very polite and a total of £33 was taken off the bill to try and go some way to putting right the experience. This was done without being asked. The food is also of good quality. However, this review is about the inadequate processes and clearly inconsistent service being provided at this price point.
My table were given three tiny strips off beef each for the roast. You can see from the photo there are actually four pieces served not three. These photos are from someone else’s review online. In addition the three strips of beef we received were half the size of the strips you see attached. Ours were absolutely tiny.
We were given two silver pots to share between four adults. Same pots as attached from the other review. One with potatoes the other with the veg. This was half filled and supposed to be for four adults ? The potatoes arrived over cooked to the point they couldn’t be cut and on return when fresh ones arrived we were given 5 potatoes to share between four adults? For one of the other online photos it looks like it should have been 3 potatoes for each person, which is not what we received. There was a few extra strips of beef provided with the potatoes as a gesture of good will but most were medium rare so only one person on the table could eat most of it. This is despite being told 3 people needed well done beef when our order was initially taken. As the potatoes took so long to come after we sent them back and we had eaten a lot of the anyway, we just shared the 5 potatoes between four adults. We waitress had taken the overcooked ones back.
Unfortunately, we didn’t take photos and I wish we did but feel free to refer to your CCTV should you need proof of this experience. I am completely shocked and confused by the experience.
Another issue is the potatoes and veg were provided to the table long before the roast was ready resulting in it getting cold. Why not serve everything together?
How anyone can feel it’s acceptable to serve this food to a table and serve in this way is quite shocking. It’s a lovely restaurant so please make sure all customers get a fair and consistent service. I’m surprised given the high rating this happened to us and I do wonder what went wrong resulting in us receiving this service. I was told by the waitress what we received was a normal portion but actually having looked at other online reviews this clearly does not seem to...
