I've been here few times now and I was always happy about their wine selection and food. I came here yesterday with 3 friends and I am sad to say that I got a bit disappointed. Their wine selection is still good but as a Saturday evening, few bottles of red were unavailable and some of the white wines were empty and hadn't been changed by any of the staff working there.
I think 2 are the negative points of this place:
the staff: not all of them are rude don't get me wrong but the lady with short hair was quite annoyed and you could see that she didn't want to work the other day. We had a table booked at 8:30 pm and when we came in she said we had to wait because we were 5 mins in advance. Fair enough but the way she told us was similar to an accuse to us for being early/on time. When she brought us the bread she left it on a side of the table leaving us to put it in the middle of it so everyone could take it. No smiles from her, only annoyed faces the whole time.
agree on the cheese/meat board reviews. Small portions for the cheese and meat slices were thin, almost transparent, maybe this could be improved considering is 20£ a board for 6 items?
Not sure if I'll come back but I will be more than happy to do so if they will improve as this was a great place back...
Read moreI went in today around lunchtime on a whim as I’m new to the area; it was sadly quite a disappointment.
The wine selection is impressive (which is clearly the draw), and the enomatic machines are fun but quite a number of bottles were only available as tiny tasting portions as they were nearly empty. The white Rioja I chose was lovely - and you can pick wines from a number of different price ranges.
I had two pretty sad small plates. I initially ordered the muscles but was told that these looked off and that I should have something else - the waiter had already gone to the kitchen to check these were on and let me order before coming back to tell me 5 minutes later I shouldn’t eat them!. The plate of tortelloni with cacio e pepe sauce can only be described as microwaved and tasteless with a sad congealed cheese sauce stuck to the plate (it was very similar to airplane food). The burrata was fine but uninspiring and unseasoned.
It was obviously empty at lunchtime so it feels unfair to be difficult about the atmosphere but for a Saturday at lunchtime I was surprised it was almost completely empty. The service was super slow and the server seemed to be fairly ambivalent, unknowledgeable and inattentive.
Maybe I need to try it on another night but a real shame for a...
Read moreI visited Vagabond for a friend's birthday and was really impressed.
The bar is unique in that you serve yourself wine by the glass via a pre-paid card system. When you go to the bar you can choose how much money to load a card with. Then it is a case of checking out the large range of wine's available along the walls. To purchase one, you enter your card and the amount you want to try (a sip? A glass?) and hold your glass to the nozzle.
It's a great way to try new wines, particularly expensive wines that perhaps you ordinarily wouldn't drink. There is also a lot of information given about the drinks, so you can totally blag knowing anything at all about wine.
The only downside was that it was SO busy and packed. Sometimes, seeing the range of wines on offer was difficult because there were so many people in the bar. Similarly, there wasn't nearly enough seating for the volume of people there. This, of course, isn't really Vagabond's...
