Stepping down into WC Bloomsbury Wine and Charcuterie feels less like entering a bar and more like discovering a magnificent secret. Tucked away beneath street level in a former public convenience—hence the name and the beautiful tiled interior—this spot is the definition of a hidden gem. It almost feels unfair to praise it publicly, as part of its charm is the quiet, dimly lit, and intimate atmosphere you worry about gatekeeping forever. The focus here is definitely on quality and selection. They offer a decent, well-curated selection of wines, often leaning toward unique and lesser-known producers. While many options fall on the expensive side, the quality justifies the price, making it a perfect destination for special occasions or when you're looking to treat yourself. Beyond the wine list, don't overlook their bar skills—they mix up some truly delicious cocktails that feel sophisticated and perfectly complement the evening setting. The culinary offering revolves around the classic pairing of wine and cured meats. The charcuterie boards are generous, featuring high-quality cheeses, meats, and excellent accoutrements. They are perfectly assembled for grazing and sharing, reflecting the relaxed, collaborative nature of the space. What truly elevates the experience is the service. The team here is simply outstanding: really knowledgeable and genuinely kind. They don't just pour wine; they offer insightful recommendations, guiding you through the selection without pretense. They can answer specific questions about regions or vintages, ensuring you leave having learned something new. WC Bloomsbury is a must-visit for anyone in the area looking for a sophisticated, atmospheric, and unforgettable evening. Just try not to tell too...
Read moreThis popped up in my research about London's quirky bars and since my birthday theme was quirky and dark, this just fit the bill. Our experience went beyond expectations. This former Victorian toilet turned into a bar and resto had us at hello. You could feel the vibe upon walking down the narrow steps illuminated by tealight candles. The staff that greeted us was friendly and welcoming. We had a corner table that suited us well. The place can only accommodate 50 so it's best to book ahead of time. Delicious food and a good selection of drinks. We had the charcuterie board which was fabulous for its variety. The variety of bread was excellent. We also had baked camembert which was perfect with white wine (although the cheese could use some sweetness on the side like caramelised onion or jam). Overall, a very good experience for my birthday dinner. I've been recommending it...
Read moreWe were a group of excited friends catching up in what it was once a public toilet, but we have been let down big time and wouldn’t go back. We start to order and, sorry we do not have burrata, sorry we do not have the 5 meat option platter, sorry we do not have Montepulciano… ok so, there are so many things of the menu that we can’t get, why have we not been informed when we walked in and specifically said we wanted to have dinner too? We have ordered a raclette instead of the burrata, and the dish, besides being very bland, it arrived only after a very long time, after we chased it. One of us ate on her own once the rest was all finished. Not great is it? Looking at other people’s pics, we were expecting a nice charcuterie board, but really it was more bread and pickles than anything else! This place is just...
