Your search for a place to stay is over - book!!!
You know when you get an invite to a wedding, and get all excited, a London wedding, then you think āouchā this might be expensive...then to find out that the wedding party was going to be staying in a pub/hotel...mmm, I had reservations, as I had no control over where we were going to be staying for a couple of nights. Well I need not have AT ALL. My expectations were low...I had images of a 'few rooms above a pub in central london'... I could not have been more wrong, and I shall be visIting again without a shadow of a doubt. AND the price was reasonable indeed.
To give you some context, Mum (81 going on 61) and I arrived a little early, NO PROBLEM...the wonderful staff never even mentioned the time! Ian - the person with whom we had the most contact was nothing short of BRILLIANT. However so were ALL the staff there, from housekeeping through to bar/waiting staff - whatever you guys are doing to recruit and retain - keep doing it!
We checked in - he shared again (although we had already been made aware prior to our arrival) that the lift was not working, and offered to assist with our luggage. OK so the stairs were steep and very windy, but we, or rather I managed. The hotel juggled guests around who were elderly (one of our party was 90 plus) to ensure they were on the first floor.
The room was perfect. Beds comfy, clean, all amenites you would expect from a 4*+ hotel. Think central London pub, you think noise; wrong- fab glazing on the windows, no sound from any other room; I shared with my Ma, and our 2 singles were glorious, we both had good nights sleep.
The breakfast was delish. Writing this review, I wish I had taken photos, but we dined with guests from the wedding party so it was all introductions and chat, less photos and commentary! The only tiny dissapointment was breakfast on the second morning...wasn't as good, a bit cold - still ate it though.
There was 10+ rooms booked over these 2 nights...and the rooms I saw - a few - were all perfect.
Even on departure day, Ian took our luggage out to our car. He actually even set his alarm to make sure he was in our room in time to help us.
OK so I left a bag behind, but they were so quick to realise they got my niece to take it on our behalf. We stayed in room 204, and are looking forward to coming back to see you all again soon...Ian mentioned on departure that it's super convenient for the 02 so we had better getting booking some tickets.
MASSIVE THANK YOU to all the wonderful staff, nothing was too much trouble...the service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDo not go here for a Christmas meal!! Good afternoon Laura,
I hope this finds you well.
I just wanted to email to tell you how disappointed I was with the meal. The Salmon was not what was advertised. There was no fennel or water cress and just a bunch of random olives thrown on. I have never had salmon with olives and now I know why. However that was the least of our worries.
When it came to the main the sides on the walnut roast were basically raw, the carrots and parsnips were inedible and it was like they had barely touched an oven. The roast potatoes were also very disappointing it tasted like they had been reheated, they were really greasy and not fluffy at all.
Lastly the dessert. Many of us ordered hot desserts (sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble) it was ice cold like it had just come out the fridge. The custard was also cold, we sent both back to be reheated. The custard had to be reheated twice (our waitress said the chefs didn't realise custard had to be hot?!).
To top it off the wait between courses was really long, we ended up eating pudding at around half 10:30. Kindly our waitress gave us a free round of drinks but it wasn't enough to forgive what was a Wetherspoons standard meal. I think I have actually had better food from Wetherspoons then we had at The Mitre.
When the bill finally came, the deposit hadn't been taken off and it was really confusing how to total up the bill. We reluctantly paid the service charge but I didn't really think we should have. And it is something I regret.
I rarely give reviews but I will be leaving one where I can tell people not order your Christmas menu. Overall it was a very unpleasant meal, we work at a school and had been really looking forward to this meal for weeks, we paid quite a lot for what was an incredibly overpriced...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdating Review Amy reached out and invited me to have a few drinks and make up for my bad experience. She left someone called Tim in charge who made me a couple of drinks and they were good so I'm amending my review from 1 star to 4 stars. Thanks for the drinks Tim and Amy!
Original review:
I've taken a moment to write a review because this was memorable for all the wrong reasons. I am not exaggerating when I say this was the worst 'cocktail' I have ever tasted and paid for in my life. I ordered a long island, waited for 10 minutes, when it arrived, it looked and tasted nothing like a long island. It was pepsi and some kind of spirit, I enjoy a long island and that was definitely not anything resembling a long island. I got a friend to take a sip and they said the same. I then asked if I could swap it for something else because apparently that's how they make them so I picked an elderflower spritz. It was basically prosecco and soda (out of tap), she put two cucumber slices and a lemon slice in which caused a lot of overspilling where the glass was already full and served it to me spilling over. Absolute mess. Tasted like prosecco and soda, that's it. I did ask whether they put any elderflower cordial or something in and they said no it doesn't contain elderflower. It is called an elderflower spritz...she asked me if it was okay and I didn't have the heart to tell her it was the worst and wait for a 3rd mess of a drink. That drink costs around £12, I don't mind paying if it's good but that price point is not justified at all to me at this pub.
Mitre, please better recruit/train your staff and reconsider calling something an elderflower spritz on your menu, which doesn't contain any elderflower...very...
