Serious safety incident & massive disappointment – Yacht Getaways “Luxury Catamaran Experience” August 2025

Our “Luxury Catamaran Experience” with Yacht Getaways on Full Moon in August 2025 turned into a nightmare. On 14 August 2025, the yacht hit a reef, causing shock and injuries to passengers. I was thrown across the cabin and suffered bruises that required hospital treatment; another passenger sustained a neck injury. The night before, the skipper returned to the boat after midnight saying “I am drunk,” which raised serious concerns about professionalism and safety.

Although Yacht Getaways later offered a 30 % refund, this does not come close to reflecting the scale of the failures and damages we suffered.

Beyond this serious accident, the trip fell far short of the promised luxury: • Cleanliness & Equipment: Unclean cabin on arrival (mold, broken bin, missing toilet paper). Cabin door did not close properly, blocking an emergency exit. Persistent sewage smell. Not enough glasses for all passengers. • Electricity & Air Conditioning: Generator failed early in the trip and was never repaired. Electricity only briefly available via inverter – insufficient to charge phones even over hours – and even in ports power wasn’t reliable. Air conditioning completely broken throughout the yacht. • Water & Food: Frequent water shortages. Loud disturbing noises from faulty pipes every morning before 7 am combined with sewage smells. Twice we were pressured into eating at designated restaurants so the operator could avoid harbor fees. • Itinerary & Swimming Stops: Far fewer swimming stops than advertised. On one day, five passengers were squeezed into a four-seater taxi without seatbelts just to reach a beach; otherwise, we would have been stuck in port all day. • Financial Issues: High total price plus separate flights. Paid an additional €280 for “repairs” but the generator was never fixed.

This was meant to be our only summer holiday and a luxury experience, but essential services and promised features were unavailable or compromised for most of the trip. The 30 % refund offered does not make up for what happened.

We have just returned from our second Yacht Getaways (YG) trip. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we had to rearrange this trip from 2020. The process was handled efficiently and professionally via email and after a long wait, we had a fantastic week sailing the Croatian Northern Explorer on board 'Simply the Best' with Skipper Trev and Host Paul. On arrival to the boat, Paul supplied lovely welcome drinks and nibbles and Trev walked us through his proposed route for the week (weather dependent). The cabin and ensuite bathroom were a good size and spotlessly clean and the air con was very efficient. Each day we visited a secluded bay for a swim/paddle board and lunch, and late afternoon/early evening we stopped at marinas with plenty to explore and excellent shower/toilet facilities.

The skipper and host were second to none. We felt extremely safe in their hands, they were highly professional and no request was to much. Paul was very passionate about cooking and the food he produced always looked and tasted amazing. He made sure we were fully fueled and happily fed ready for the day ahead. Trev and Paul gave us restaurant recommendations, organised an amazing wine tasting experience on our request and booked taxis to ensure that we had a seemless and stress free holiday. The Host and Skipper undoubtedly make a huge difference to your trip and we were very lucky that we had Trev and Paul to ensure we had the best holiday. They were friendly, professional, knowledgeable and were definitely huge assets to Yacht Getaways. They worked long hours (far exceeding what was expected) and any future guests would be lucky to have them as their Skipper and Host.

There are some things that could be improved by YG (this was not down to Trev and Paul), we were originally sent to the wrong location to board the boat as the instructions received from YG via email were not clear and the link stated the wrong Marina. This resulted in us lugging our bags and suitcases a fair distance in the heat which wasn't great. Clearer instruction on which Marina the boat departed from would have been great!

This was our first ever sailing trip, and our first trip to Greece. After looking through several internet sites in an effort to select and book a catamaran experience, we elected Yacht Getaways. We are so pleased with the entire experience. The communications leading up to our trip kept us well informed and not guessing at anything. We met our crew at the location that was specified on time. We immediately felt comfortable with the dashing Skipper Daan and his host Victoria. We were a little confused as the communication had indicated Luiz would be our host. We lucked out in the fact that both Luiz and Victoria were the hosts. Victoria was in training. I had wanted to learn all I could about the process and observing Victorias training was an added bonus and insight on how the crew works to both sail the boat and attend to the guests. Our prescribed sailing route was reversed due to some high winds. We experienced some choppy water and high winds. Since this was our first time, we had nothing to compare to, so it was simply part of sailing. The one down side was that we only spent one day under full sail, as the rest of the days were going against the wind. Mother Nature controls all, so it was all part of the journey. The crew took us to some amazing places and presented us with suggestions for things to do and see. They also recommended some amazing places to eat. Speaking of food... Luiz did an amazing job of keeping our bellies full of amazing cuisine. Actually rather impressive that a person could prepare such great meals on choppy waters and in a kitchen really made for a step up from camping. Our week was filled with some interesting adventure that included hooking a large tractor tire with our anchor in one of the ports we docked at. There was a few other adventures that will remain in the Greek waters !!!! This was an amazing trip. Thank you so much to the behind the scenes people who handle logistics and boat prep, and thank you to the amazing crew of Daan, Luiz and Victoria for proving us with the trip of a lifetime.
