Saw the great reviews on Google and also based on a personal recommendation we decided to visit The Red Lion Hotel Thai Restaurant for dinner. My partner and I ordered Tom Kha with Chicken, Duck spring rolls and 2 x Pad Thai, one with chicken and one with prawns.
The Tom Kha had no texture and was very watery, no depth to the taste as you would expect. The Spring rolls tasted as if they were cooked from frozen, flavourless. The most disappointing dishes were the Pad Thai which hadn't been cooked with the meat or prawns, they came out steaming and too hot to eat and tasted identical, both bland and colourless. There was no taste of tamarind in there and it seemed they were cooked from the same batch but just added chicken and prawns. Thai food is one of our favourite cuisines and we've eaten in many Thai restaurants all over the UK and across Thailand including street cafes so we're well accustomed to authentic Thai cuisine.
We shared our feedback with the serving staff and the owner came over and said "But I am Thai" - just because you're Thai it doesn't make you a good cook! Her business partner who was sat behind us turned around and said "have you seen our reviews?"We simply wanted to share our feedback but it was received negatively. So much so, as we left the Restaurant a few minutes later, the serving staff member was telling his drunk friends who were having drinks outside what had happened. These friends then started shouting "I've never had any complaints about the food before, this is the best Thai I have ever had". This really disappointed us, our feedback was shared to customers who weren't even eating Thai food and showed a lack of respect and professionalism.
We are visiting Malvern for the weekend from London and were really enjoying our stay in this quaint township. This has left a bad taste in our mouths (pardon the pun). Last night we ate at The Everest Eatery which was a completely different experience with friendly and respectful staff, authentic and freshly cooked food.
We unfortunately won't be returning to The Red...
Read moreI cant speak highly enough of the Red Lion pub in Malvern. I have been going here for many years and have always had excellent authentic Thai food, and all the staff are so friendly and helpful. It's a good idea to book as it gets very busy. The takeaways are also excellent but try to make your order early because again they are generally busy . They have an English menu but I havent tried it . Nice outdoor seating and food is also served out doors. The quaint little Thai restaurant itself has not been open because of the pandemic but when it is it is a truly magical experience. No actual parking but there is the council car park at the bottom of the hill, and then a short few seconds...
Read moreWell the Red Lion was a real find for us. Cheap paid parking close by with plenty of space at 1.30pm on a Saturday. Outside seating available. What was a very good start was every member of staff said hello as we walked in. Good selection of reasonably priced drinks. Food was excellent, one of the best burger and chips I've had in a while although the extra toppings were a little expensive. Good reports of the pizza and fish and chips. All non greasy, fresh, mostly prepared on site it would seem, cooked to perfection, hot and all served together. Both the manager and chef came to check on the food as we...
