[Authentic taste/affordable price/large portion/good service attitude] These words can all be used for the same restaurant, which is the Old Place Restaurant in Manchester. The Old Place has become my must-eat restaurant on my weekly indulgence day! This time we ordered Thai boneless chicken feet, Portuguese egg tarts, fresh meat siomai, beef brisket rice noodles, and double BBQ rice. None of them were disappointing, each had its own highlights!
[Let’s talk about new products first] Thai Boneless Chicken Feet I didn’t expect much from the hot and sour side dishes produced by the Cantonese restaurant, but they turned out to be surprisingly delicious! Refreshing and chewy, the spicy and sour flavor is a great tool for relieving tiredness! Some Cantonese cuisine noodles and rice require thick oil and red sauce. If you eat too much, you may get tired of your mouth. Therefore, it is highly recommended that every table order a plate of chicken feet as a side dish. It combines well with the taste of other dishes👍
Fresh meat shaomai The siomai has thin skin and large fillings, and the meat is fresh and tender. When you bite into it, the fresh meat juice bursts in your mouth. The meat is fragrant and full of flavor. Very suitable for eating as a side dish, delicious and appetizing!
【Let’s talk about old dishes】 Portuguese Egg Tart The core of the Portuguese egg tarts in the old place is closest to the taste of domestic KFC egg tarts. I usually don't like sweets, but the only thing I can't give up is egg tarts. Ever since I came to the UK and ate the first bite of the British Custard Tart, I felt depressed. It wasn't until I ate the Portuguese tart from the old place that I felt aggrieved again. Restore hope. The egg tart head must be flushed! The eggy and milky aroma overflows, it melts in your mouth, and the skin is crispy. It’s a dream to go to heaven in one bite🤣🤣🤣
Beef Brisket Pho It is a well-known fact that bodybuilders have big appetites. I have seen big events. Even if I can eat seven or eight sandwiches in one meal, the moment this [pot] of beef brisket pho was served, I was already thinking about asking the waiter for a takeaway box. The amount of beef was so huge that you couldn’t even see the rice noodles underneath when it was served. The beef brisket was alternately fat and lean, stewed very soft and delicious, and the rich red sauce complemented the soft and glutinous rice noodles. It’s a great way to build muscle for those with a big stomach. A staple of ecstasy! I’ll pay for it next time! Double BBQ rice The portions are still amazing. The crispy barbecued pork and traditional barbecued pork are alternately fat and lean, fat but not greasy, the skin is crispy, the sauce is refreshing and greasy, the rice is substantial, and it is an excellent staple food when paired with vegetables. Recommend everyone to try it! [Explosion R] These dishes totaled 56 pounds. The three girls ate together and still had some leftover. The average price per person was less than 20 pounds and they were super happy and satisfied. It is really unbeatable value for money! However, the old place is always very popular during meal time, so students can avoid...
Read moreThe day before yesterday, me and my friend went shopping in the center of the city, shopping hungry on the way to punch a card in China City this very famous "老地方" Cantonese restaurant. First of all, I have to say that its home address is really very easy to find, the fluorescent signs outside are large and bright, and can be seen at a glance far away, especially convenient! Secondly, the Cantonese food in his home is really authentic, the staff in the shop are all Hong Kong local, and almost all the customers in the hall are Cantonese speaking, and the atmosphere is particularly good! Then the amount of food in his home is also very good (my friend and I packed two boxes of four dishes at the end), the price is relatively affordable, and the menu is also what kinds of cuisines and varieties. Here are a few of our favorites:
🌟 three burn spell A serving of 14.8 pounds, it contains three kinds of meat, roast duck, crispy pork and char siu, the taste is authentic char siu sweet and salty sauce, especially affordable especially suitable for the party to eat! A plate for two is perfectly fine! 🌟 spare ribs pot It's claypot ribs with Onions. Ribs are so rich! Ribs are so many! Ribs are so many! (Important words say three times ha ha ha) this amount is so much that we have not finished eating, the whole is the kind of stir-fried fragrance! 🌟 pepper and salt squid Super fresh super Q squid, wrapped in dough must be hot to eat! The amount of salt and pepper is also relatively moderate, not too salty nor too light, is a more recommended seafood dishes! 🌟 custard bun One of my most recommended staples! My friend said that it should be made by their family, and the custard filling inside is very sufficient, and it is super satisfying to eat!
Oh yes, his family also has ktv service, you can eat while singing ha ha, that is, you need to book a private...
Read moreMy friend and I visited and tried to get a table. We walked in to a half-full restaurant at 3pm on a Sunday. I asked the manager, in Cantonese, for a table. He made us sit at the reception area for over 10 minutes despite there being empty tables already prepped for customers.
As we waited, we were facing the roast meat prep area at the front where the meats are hung on hooks. We witnessed them chopping the roast duck, char siew and siew yoke (crispy roast pork belly) and then reheating those items in the microwave on a brief blast. Yikes. Food safety issues!!!
Manager finally sat us at a table which had been unoccupied and laid out since before we arrived. So why did he force us to wait? Laziness? Indifference? Sheer ignorance?
Dimsum menu, main menu and pen were plonked onto the table. Nobody asked if we wanted tea. Menu was typical dim sum and other typical Cantonese dishes for the Hong Kong diaspora, seen in most Cantonese-speaking places in Chinatowns across the UK. Nothing exciting.
10 more minutes and no sign of anyone interested in taking any orders for food or tea.
I am very tolerant of indifferent service especially if the food is good. This place irked me so much that I walked out of the restaurant without ordering. I wasn't going to have atrocious service in conjunction with the hazards of microwaved roast meat. First time in my life walking out of a restaurant. Congratulations to this restaurant for a brand new achievement.
The previous restaurant at this site (New Emperor) was already a disaster but this one is...
