What’s gooood in Manchester’s Chinatown when you want some Thai food…your answer is Try Thai
Off we went on Sunday lunchtime for a birthday meal not realising they had a lunchtime menu, and was it worth it? Yes, it was
Try Thai have a lunchtime menu including a 3-course meal for £9.95 or £12.95 depending on which options you want to pick. However, it’s pretty much a 2-course meal as it’s a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a coffee for dessert. Regardless, the options on the lunch menu are vast that you have plenty to choose from. If you’re not feeling multiple courses, you can always go for the Express menu at £6.95. So, depending on how hungry you are, there’s an option for you What did we, at EatInMCR, order? We got ourselves a 3-course menu and then an Express option, which were: · A3, Crispy Coriander Beef (Starter) – Every time we go, this is a must for us and for any beef lovers out there make sure you try it out. On the rare occasion, it’s been slightly overdone but this time, it was just perfect…the right amount of crispy crunch and the perfect flavour · A23, Stir Fry Chilli Paste & Sweet Basil with Chicken and Egg fried rice (Main) – Oooh this was way chilly even though it only had 2 chilli symbols on the menu. I wasn’t expecting it to taste as good as it did and boy, was I surprised – I was belly happy after eating this (mind my pun) · Stir Fry Flat Noodles with Chicken & Cashew Nuts (Express) – This kind of tasted like a slightly different Pad Thai and had a nice zingy, zesty taste which balanced out the spice we had with the Chilli paste. If you’re looking for an option that doesn’t make your eyes and nose water, it’s a good bet
Oh, and another thing for the Muslims out there, the chicken and beef is halal And on that note, Try Thai is the place to go if you’re in and around Manchester and want some Thai food at a medium-price

The garnishes ( slices of tomato, cabage and cucumber) were so dry. I think they cut them in the morning or the day before. it's fine I just didn't eat them. But I ordered Pad Thai and it had eggs in it and some of the egg pieces were cold. I think they prepare the eggs in the morning or the day before like the garnishes and then use them when the order comes in. The experience of eating eggs without knowing when they were cooked was not fun.
and the server said that I can order dessert when ordering the main menu, so I said I would have mango sticky rice for dessert, so I thought it would come after the main meal, but it came out along with the main menu, so I had to eat the dried mango sticky rice. If you want dessert after your meal, order it after the main menu rather than at the beginning.
Also, be careful when ordering drinks. At Happy hour, drinks are 2 for 1, so I ordered two large diet coke, but they charged me 4 x 1/2 pint coke instead of 2 x 1 pint coke. We said we ordered 2 x 1 pint coke, not 4 x 1/2 pint coke, but the server said 4 x 1/2 pint was correct. because I was with a guest so I didn't complain anymore, just paid it. but it is quite annoying.
At least the amount was huge. we couldn't finish our food.
Thank you for reply. I don't know why some eggs were cold. And I double checked the happy hour menu but nothing mentioned about you only do 2 for 1 on half pint. I think you should have mentioned it on the menu or should have told us when we were ordering. Also I would like to make it clear that you didn't serve 4 large pints of coke. There were three of us and one of us ordered tap water. So we ordered two large coke and served two large...
Read moreDisappointing experience. Visited with family on Sat 26th October for my Dad and I's shared birthday meal. The restaurant felt commercialised, not authentic. A big focus on Halloween with the decor overtaking the Thai touches e.g. pretend dead arm and bat hanging over us from the bar. The waiting staff were dressed in costume including face paint which just killed the vibe completely and I also felt was a hygiene issue as I questioned if they may have worn each costume more than once - this was 5 days before Halloween itself! One person also was wearing black gloves which again can't possibly offer good hygiene.
We were to the side of the bar and basically forgotten about, so had to ask someone if we could order both drinks and food together.
The food left much to be desired. We had the mixed Thai starter, meat was chewy and overcooked. Our main meals were luke warm, my dad was waiting for his main for five minutes after meals had arrived for the rest of the table. I had the cashew nut dish and the sauce was watery and bland. My partner said his pad Thai tasted like ketchup. Three of us ordered rice but staff didn't think to explain rice comes in a big bowl and that we would only need two between three of us. However, they only initially brought two of the rice, then as we were halfway through our meal randomly brought us the third.
We were able to get two portions of rice and the service charge knocked off the bill but no proper apology or acknowledgement of anything that had gone wrong - and it still set us back £130.
Worst Thai experience I've ever had, I'll stick to Mommy Thai which is a no frills, street food style place I usually go to in Leeds with friendly staff and...
