As a foodie with a fondness for China town in Manchester and a penchant for authentic Chinese cuisine, my experience at Little Yang Sing was a mix of highs and lows. Arriving as a solo diner on a business trip, I found myself sandwiched between two fellow solo diners. To my left, a disgruntled chap lamented about his hour-long wait without any food. However, the swift response of the manager, who promptly apologized and took action, impressed me. Opting for a selection of dim sum to start, followed by quarter crispy duck and spinach in sauce, my order arrived promptly, perhaps spurred on by the urgency created by the neighboring diner's complaint. The service, particularly from Lisa and Chris, was impeccable, with a dedicated water server ensuring my glass remained topped up throughout the meal. Reflecting on past visits, I reminisced about dining here during my university days in the late 90s when it was known as "Little Sister" or something akin. While the nostalgia was palpable, the similarity in prices to those in London left me slightly disappointed. Despite this, the overall experience at Little Yang Sing was positive, with its efficient service, delicious dishes, and a touch of nostalgia making it a place I would consider returning to, albeit with the caveat of managing expectations around pricing.

My friend and me (both Chinese) were experiencing a very miserable dinner tonight. We had very little amount of this chicken dish which priced at £13.95 and we complained. Before we made the compliant, the Asian manager could speak Chinese. After we complained, she responded us indifferently in English and what she tried to tell us is this was how this chicken dish looked like and these pieces of chicken were all the money it worth for its quality and quantity. There was nothing she could do with it. Thank you for your explanation. That makes more sense as this is what customers (or Chinese customers?) can expect from the Little Yang Sing :) Most importantly, waiters treated Chinese people differently, never imagine being discriminated by Chinese servers. A male waiter sweared to us after we requested for menu the second time. This is not the first time the little Yang Sing does so. I found some similar experience on Google and Chinese review apps. You can have your attitude to POLITICS but not to your CUSTOMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very disappointing and suffering dinner. Can’t wait to leave the restaurant. Btw, Very surprised to see a shameless 10% service charge added in the bill. To all who are considering to go to the little Yang Sing. Please don’t go if you don’t agree with this kind of unfair behaviours!!!

A great find in Chinatown! Down the stairs and led to a table with everyone else, it was quiet and only a handful of people. But seating us near each other helped build atmosphere. There was a long wait time to order but once the ball was rolling, things came pretty fast. Food was delicious, but not as good as other Chinese resteraunts in town. The duck in lemon and honey was delicious, but very very fatty (more so than usual for a duck dish). The food was on balace extremely delicious, hot, well seasoned and despite the complaint of fatty duck, delicious. A small annoyance, their Cola's are quite expensive for cola and come in very small thin glasses. It's quite a rip off of your money especially when the food is reasonable priced. Staff are very pleasant, but hard to flag down to place another order. There was a 20 minute wait from the mains being taken away and a desert menu given to us finally managing to get their attention to order said desert. Overall, if the staff were a bit more attentive, and they sorted out their pricing for soft drinks in comparison to the quantity of soft drink you get, it would easily be a 5* rating.

I had the misfortune of dining at Little Ying Sang last night. First up. The service was awful, staff wandering about aimlessly, drinks order needed to be taken twice. Got the food order wrong, after main courses we were left sitting for over 30minutes ( it’s not busy so no excuse) then caught the attention of waiter cleaning next table his immediate reaction was “do you want your bill?” No would you like to see a desert menu! Not even an offer of would you like a coffee! Next the food. We ordered the paper wrapped prawns, ( 2 portions ordered only one delivered. ( So had to wait for second) they were obviously not made fresh, the paper was like freezer burned cardboard. The order of egg fried rice was swimming in oil and had a funny taste ( burnt sesame oil). When I asked for the desert menu one was presented. Basically if it came out of a wholesaler freezer it was on the menu, I asked where the traditional Cantonese sweets like banana toffee balls, or even bananas in batter with syrup were, answer “ we don’t do that”? So on to the decor, the place is tired and drab, it’s like a throwback to the 1980’s, plastic covered mismatched dining chairs and drab brown tables. All in all the bill was £91.00 plus a pre populated £9.00 service charge. So nearly £100 for a completely disappointing meal, when I was paying the bill the waiter asked if the meal was OK? I said sorry but it was at best average, the food was disappointing and the service haphazard, he shrugged his shoulders and processed the bill, no apology no please wait and discuss your concerns with a manager. My impression was this was not an unusual event. Would I go back- not a chance there’s much better food at a better price at my...

If I could give it zero stars I really would. Possibly the worst Chinese meal I've ever had - what a huge change from the standard it used to have. The starters we had were mediocre and main course Singapore vermicelli was bland and tasteless and salt n pepper chips were terrible. What has happened to this once amazing restaurant.

We weren't offered any prawn crackers, felt like we were on a conveyer belt with eat, clean, next. I had just nearly finished my starter and was going to have the last remnants of the sauce but it was taken away with 'finished?' but taking the plate the same time as it was said!

To me the starters came out super fast, this shows it has been mass produced in the back and explains why onions were stone cold.

The restaurant after complaining about it did not charge for the dishes we raised amd still thought it was ok to put a service charge on (remember service charges are not legal in the UK and are at the customer's discretion) so after having a bad experience and leaving hungry I got this removed but the cheek of keeping it on there in the first place!

The manager advised the excuses for poor tasting food, apparently Singapore vermicelli should not be spicy?? That's the first Chinese restaurant that has said that! I've had better super noodles at home. There were just poor excuses for our experience.

This place is crossed off our recommended restaurants...

We went in for a meal.. 6 of us. We had 3 beers, a bottle of wine and a set meal. The food itself was nice. As I have allergies I asked for plain chicken and vegetables with no sauce, or possibly just soy sauce. The waiter refused and said 'sorry we are a Chinese we can't do that' even after me asking again and basically just asking for plain stir fried food... which I assume it the base to most dishes before a sauce is added.. it was refused. So I didn't eat anything, which makes our bill at £200 even more ridiculous for 5 people.

I feel the place had a lack of atmosphere, no real interaction from the waiters/waitresses, no background music. When the bill came, we was overcharged on drinks, we had ordered 3 beers ( one with blackcurrant in) and had been charged for 3 beers and an additional one with blackcurrant in. When questioning this, the waitress was arguing and saying we have had this. Which I can assure we had only 3 in total. In the end we just paid and left as they had no intension of rectifying their mistake and we had a taxi waiting outside.

Overall I think the restaurant massively overcharges on food, our bill came to over £200 ( £40 each for a set meal) and I wouldn't rate the customer service very highly either. Food quality was okay but not worth the money.

Will not be returning. 1 star for the food quality. I have no other...
