What a terrible experience. I visited with my 4 year old taco obsessed son. I asked him what he wanted to do with our day together during half term. “I want to go to Manchester for tacos” sorted. Don tacos had a great looking vegan selection, you can order a vegan version of pretty much anything on the menu, a fantastic start, so we headed there. I’m not sure how long they’ve been open but the place looks half finished, very industrial and no atmosphere to speak of, no music, boxes everywhere. Ordered drinks, asked for the vegan menu. I asked the waitress what the least spicy choice of filling was. She said we could order anything at any spice level, great for a child who loves tacos but hates spice. He chose the vegan chicken tacos and I reiterated serveral times that we would like it with minimal spice, no salsa, no jalapeños, no onions. Ordered some chips and salsa to keep him happy whilst we waited. The salsa had the taste and consistency of the jarred Doritos kind, definitely not made in house. The same goes for the habanero and mango salsa I ordered for myself, a watery sauce that tasted of little more than chilli powder. Not a great start. Tacos come, more of the same jarred salsa and my sons absolutely laden with chopped onion, jalopenos and the salsa we had specifically asked to be removed. I tasted it, spicy as the fires of hell. I informed the waitress, the food was taken back but offered no apology. 20 minutes later the tacos re-emerge, but by this time my son was bored and restless, he took one bite said it was disgusting and asked to leave. I think his summary was pretty spot on as I tasted them too. Mine were also very bland. We paid up, again with no apology and went next door to bar burrito for churros. Poor service, poor communication between front and back of house, all the atmosphere of a grave yard, food that’s average at best but poor for the price. Don’t wait your money, head to birria...
Read moreThe food was amazing! Two of us had birria tacos and I had birria quesadillas, then for a side we had red rice. It tasted incredible and the portion size was good. However the service and atmosphere let it down. The server was a younger lad and probably shouldn’t have been on his own, as I assume he was a bit stressed out (which would explain his off-handedness). The restaurant is very small and most the tables were taken when we arrived, so he made one available for us when someone sitting on their own left. However, once we had ordered and were waiting for our food, a large group came in and there were no tables big enough for them, so they and the server had to do some re-arranging to be able to fit them in. Because they took a while doing this and then ordering (and the server was on his own) our food ended up being ready and was sitting on the counter for at least 5 mins before the chefs asked if we wanted to collect it, as the server was busy. Luckily we were sitting right next to the kitchen, but because we then had to collect our own food and get our own cutlery as there was none set at the table, it’s things like this that have an impact on the dining experience. The place in general looks like it needs a good clean and refresh, the decor isn’t very inviting (especially with the creepy mannequin at the entrance) and the walls definitely need a re-plaster and re-painting. If you can see past the cons, you will definitely still be able to...
Read moreThis was a cute Mexican restaurant that I enjoyed but don't think i'd return to.
♡ Pros: • Quite a big menu • Food was actually spicy if you order it hot • Meat was really nice, I ordered the beef birria tacos with consume • Guac tasted fresh as anything it was clearly made in store! • Fun themed interior • Open quite late
× Cons: ° Toilets were grim and there was basically no soap. This was kinda crazy to me given that my meal came with a consume so hands were going to get dirty ° Person I was with ordered the meat feast I think it was called, and they only really liked 1 taco out of the 4 ° The sides were quite limited ° Staff weren't super welcoming. Did ask for recommendations for which meat in the tacos and it was kinda short answers with lack of real description on differences, seemed kind of distracted when responding to me • Consumme wasn't super flavourful and I didn't think it added much compared to the guac which was...
