Today at Gail’s I was deliberately ignored by a staff member. I felt discriminated against and very disrespected.

When I arrived at Gail’s, for some reason the queue was forming towards the collection counter. I thought it was a bit odd, but didn’t think too much of it and just joined the line. Later, some people also started queuing on the bakery side.

When it was the turn of the girl in front of me, there were people lined up on both sides. The staff just looked at the two queues and said nothing, leaving it up to the customers to figure out who should order first.

When it was about to be my turn, another staff member came out and served the people on the bakery side. The female staff member who was standing in front of the POS machine looked at me once, and then just walked away.

She simply left, making me stand there alone, looking as if I had cut the line. She didn’t even say anything like asking me to rejoin the queue properly, nor did she explain to the other side that I had been waiting for quite a while.

Oh wow.

In the end, I had to go back and queue all over again. When it was finally my turn, it was the same staff member taking my order. And when I received my drink, my matcha latte had been made as a regular latte instead. I was already upset, and on top of that I had to deal with a wrong order. At that point, I had no mood left to deal with the staff anymore.

Overall, it was a very poor dining experience, and I won’t be...

Been going around to all the artesian bakeries around the uk trying their white sourdough (I feel like this is the foundation to know if a bakery is good) and I finally got to Gail’s in Manchester (which is arguably slightly overhyped)

I gave the white sourdough a 5/10, because the dough was tight and heavy and it was quite sweet, the exterior was crumbly and Il most cake-like, the dough was quite dense with few air bubbles and openings. They had a machine and sliced it for me, however, it was quite a faff and lead to the woman having to get a whole new loaf for us as she kept dropping the previous one. Overall, it is overhyped and had a less then average sourdough (even though it’s know for that) and I wouldn’t pay the price for it again; want to state that I’m not complaining, just comparing it to other venues I have been to.

They also offer other breads, pastries, savoury foods like sandwiches and quiches, and drinks/coffees - I have also tried their butter croissant which was also average, their cinnamon bun which was quite tasty, a chai latte which tasted like straight cinnamon, and an iced chocolate which was decent. Not too fussed about returning. (This is...

They serve stale bakery products with the excuse of reducing food waste.

Firstly, there is a huge queue that hides the counter until you arrive there and, before you even had a chance to look at what they sell, they ask you to order. If you pause for a second to look at what’s available, they move to the next customer.

Staff is not aware of what their products contain and are unable to answer any questions you may have.

The pastries are stale as they keep serving the leftovers for several days before serving freshly baked items. They justify this stating it reduces food waste; however, when I buy something, I expect it to be fresh. If they wanted to reduce food waste, they could simply donate the leftover to a charity at the end of the day, instead of keep selling stale products for days and days.

Considering the price, it’s definitely not...

While shopping in Manchester, we saw a very long queue. Being nosey, we noticed the queue was outside Gail's Bakery. As we had things to do, we decided to carry on with our shopping and call back later in the day. By the time we returned, the queue had reduced considerably, and the service was fairly quick. As we had eaten lunch, we just shared an Almond Croissant, and I had Cappuccino. The Croissant was absolutely delicious, and the Cappuccino was fine. We decided to sit downstairs. I thought we had gone into an old style club. The music was way too loud. The place itself was fairly clean. However, they need to check the toilets more often. I think the attached picture says enough. I would visit again, I just wouldn't sit inside. Great products, just didn't like the atmosphere.
