I've eaten dim sum all over the world and I still maintain that Yang Sing and Tai Pan have some of the best outside Hong Kong. That being said I read a review saying that the best Dim Sum in Manchester was to be found at Mei Dim...so obviously I was excited to go!
The review had already warned me the place wasnt fancy...and it wasn't...but I was more interested in the food anyway. But this was also a let down...the Dim Sum menu is extensive but the quality is pretty poor...overly thick cheung fun noodles with little filling and just soy sauce was an example but there were others...like Siew Long Dumplings that were obviously shop bought and served without any black vinegar...there are more examples but overall it was really really average. Also the house chilli oil is really bland...and chilli oil is a big thing for me! There was nothing here that will bring me here again.
The worst bit was yet to come however. I saw they had roast duck hanging in their window so I thought I would get some to take away...I ordered a half roast duck but when I got home I saw they had only given me a quarter...but still charged me £18...I'd read some reviews of the place ripping off non Chinese patrons and I guess it happened to me too.
Give this place...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited Mei Dim Restaurant, and unfortunately, the experience didnāt live up to expectations. While the portions were definitely generous, the quality of the food was lacking. The dishes seemed overly greasy, and many ingredients didnāt taste fresh. The flavors didnāt stand out, and the overall quality felt more focused on quantity rather than delivering a satisfying meal. It was disappointing, especially considering how much food was served.
Additionally, the service was very poor. The staff seemed disorganized and inattentive. We had to wait an unusually long time for our orders to arrive, and when they did, the food was lukewarm. The staff didnāt check on us frequently, and we had to ask multiple times for refills on drinks and sauces. It was frustrating because there was little effort to make sure we were enjoying our meal or to improve the overall experience.
While Mei Dim does offer a lot of food, it doesn't make up for the lack of quality and service. It feels like they focus more on serving large amounts of food quickly rather than providing a pleasant dining experience. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you're looking for a satisfying meal or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe place is not visually pleasing at all. The furniture and fabrics are old and heavy.
We ordered the Mei Dim full-meal deal (three dishes) for £23 each. The dishes included crispy duck with pancakes/cucumber/spring onions, beef with sweet and sour sauce, chicken, spring rolls, prawns, and vegetable rice.
Everything tasted from quite satisfactory to very good (e.g. the duck was good but a bit dry, and the beef was soft and tasty), except the vegetable rice, which tasted like it was cooked hours ago and microwaved/reheated, and the prawns, which I believe were cooked from frozen.
For what we got, the price per person was too high. I would expect something closer to £15-18 each instead of £23.
Finally, the service was extremely slow! It took about two hours for all three dishes to be served, so we had to wait a considerable amount of time between dishes. Although this allowed us to digest and enjoy each dish without getting too stuffed, the service was slow nonetheless.
Because we enjoyed the majority of the food we consumed, I would probably recommend Mei Dim Restaurant, but with...
