Reviewing for the restaurant portion of the place. The food was the key star of this place. If not for the food i would have rated this place lower. What we ordered was great, flavour was nice.
Service was mixed, the first server was very pushy and tried to upsale everything like the place was going to go out of business the next day. Can i blame them for it, no its their job, but too much can make you feel like a piggy bank rather than a patron. The second server was great and attentive, very friendly. The person that served food to our table one time was funny and also friendly. Ive heard that the service can be slow and I agree, any more than 5 tables seated and it starts to go down hill. But that could be a headcount issue rather than the fault of the servers.
Atmosphere was very otherworldy, it falls to a common gripe i have with these modern "fancy" restaraunts and that is it was dark, with a overhead light feeling like an interrogation room, red strobes flashing. A restaurant doesnt have to be like a Hollister to have that high end feel. With the dancing gorilla projected on a wall doing a fortnight dance, and the overbearing music it just felt disjointed. At one point with 2 dancers circling the restaurant in revealing outfits i didnt know where to look, definitely awkward if going with family or a partner (or both).
The menu system is confused. Unless you specifically ask for the set menus or the special offers seen online the will hand you the standard a la carte. If we hadnt ordered from the 5 course set menu we could have easily spent 300+ for 3 of us. Drinks were very expensive even for a higher end bar. Value for money is poor, theres a difference between spending money because you can vs spending money on what something is worth.
When booking theres an option to confirm if its a special occasion. Dont bother it was acknowledged at the door once by the late host (who arrived at the same time we did) before being seated and was never mentioned again.
Overall Its definitely one of those instgram places, and you go for the theatrics rather than the food itself. If you plan to go, go with friends, do it big, get the flashy sushi dry ice platter or the flaming lobster or whatever have the experience and put it behind you.
Food was decent, service was okay, but i...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't like writing bad reviews and I've been trying to get the bad experience I had sorted out with the general manager before leaving a review, but ive had no joy in nearly 3 months.
Myself and 6 friends had booked a table in the club for my friends birthday. Every time we put a drink down, the staff would pick our half full glass up and take it away, then poor us another drink. When questioning them, I was told to keep the drinks in my hand (isn't that the whole point of getting a table, to put your drink down???) The bill came and we were charged for red bulls we didn't have and also 2 rounds of shots when 1 only had 1. When we questioned them, we were surrounded by bouncers. We were asked to leave and not given an explanation why. I refused to leave as we had paid nearly £400 for the table and still had drinks left. I was then dragged out. Ive never experienced such embarrassment ever. I've later found out a girl in our party was falling asleep which is why we were asked to leave. Should that person not be asked to leave and not the full party. I personally would of thought so. (Clearly just wanted the table for another group of people as we had been in early and wasn't spending as much anymore) I'm still unsure why I was dragged out, so asked the door staff whilst filming, why was a dragged out. One of the doormans asian friends, then stole my phone. I was then threatened by the doorman who said "you don't know who I'm dealing with". As you can appreciate, I was then reluctant to call the police to get in back. The doorman went over to the guys car who took the phone to see if I could get my phone back and had no joy. I was just so grateful for one of the doorman who was angry at the other doorman for there disgusting, behaviour and helped me get a taxi home.
If you go to the club, watch out for the doormen, check your bill, watch out for your drinks being took when...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEnjoyed the 2022 sharing menu for a work Christmas do. Really tasty and plenty to eat, lovely staff, some really adventerous cocktails that were unusual for me and a classy, minimal style venue.
Music was from a DJ at the end of the room. A little loud for me and enjoyed a lot, even though not quite my taste. Good energy and vibes: at one point in the night, the whole room had sparkler candles!
A standout for me are the staff. We were very well looked after by a 2 of the staff that regularly came by the table and helped when we had extra numbers. They were helpful when I asked about the cocktails, not knowing much about them. The staff on entry were all efficient in welcoming us and showing to tables. Absolutely flawless. You can tell they care and take pride in their role.
I'd say as a venue, this is deliberately positioned to be what it is and that it delivers at what it's aiming to do: there's a curiousity element, you're being catered to in a slightly mysterious world of oddities, the whole place is an artistic statement in itself and it's upmarket, which is reflected in some of the prices. Everything is carefully considered; from the paper of the drinks menu to the font of the text printed on it and the leather booklet with a custom icon for the menu, the doors, the lights, the custom detailing, crockery, food and artwork on walls. There's a strong sense of individuality around every corner and in all the staff. I had an experience, for sure.
I rate MKNY HSE as a different type of venue for a work do and the team had a lot of fun. I understand comments about style over substance in reviews. I'd say that it depends what you're into, really. There were a number very pricey luxury cars outside if that helps place this as a...
