This would’ve been a minus one star review if it wasn’t for the manager and the other members of staff that stepped in at our table last night.
We had a table booked for food and drinks and the waitress that was initially supposed to serve our table was awful. If she doesn’t have people’s skills or not prepared to learn them then maybe she needs to look for another job.
She rudely interrupted our conversation twice, like she was bothered that we were chatting, she bought the bottle of wine we ordered, asked if it’s the right one and we had to double check it against the menu because the name wasn’t matching and without going into details here, I’m just going to say that she wasn’t pleased we did this, after SHE ASKED if it’s the right bottle.
Fast forward from this issue, there were 2 beer glasses on the table and she was about to pour the wine into one of them so we asked if we can have actual wine glasses and she gave us a nasty look and an attitude and proceeded to tell us numerous times that apparantelt those are the standard wine glasses. We asked her if we can have the tall glasses instead, if she’s so adamant that the pint glasses were wine glasses and at the same time also asked if someone else can serve our table and she said ‘well this is MY side of the restaurant’, again, with an extremely rude attitude.
She proceeded to go and speak with her colleague and she was looking directly at us and laughing so I had to go and ask for the manager because at this point I was getting pretty irritated by her nasty attitude. If I wanted to be treated like that, I would’ve went to the pub down the road but that’s probably an insult for the staff at the pub as they’re probably more mannered than her.
The manager was very kind and friendly and the gentleman that looked after our table once the manager left for the evening was also very kind, so thank you to both of you for looking after us last night and I hope the lady in question will work on...
Read moreThe Ivy Asia - We celebrated my brother's 30th with dinner at The Ivy and ordered so much food. Ivy Asia is truly spectacular and I preferred the menu to that of the brasserie and the roof terrace, the idea was similar to tapas where each diner orders 2 or 3 plates.
Between us, for starters, we enjoyed a wide spectrum of food such as yellow fin tuna tataki, prawn steamed dumplings in miso foam, Bao buns, fried chicken gyoza, cripsy duck salad and more. This was a feast and we had more food on the way! My personal favourite was the popcorn chicken Bao bun, the bun was so fluffy! After this the tuna tataki in the first picture were fantastic, so delecate and flavoursome.
Enjoying food in such a beautiful and decedent restaurant was an experience in its self, that famous green floor was captivating.
We ordered a main course each and didn't share as much as we did the starters I posted yesterday. I opted for the Duck Massaman curry with cashew nuts, a mild curry but full of aromatic flavours with a creamy texture. A portion of kimchi fried rice on the side was a proper good shout as it was the best fried rice I'd had and could've eaten it on its own.
The curry is in the third picture because quite frankly the picture I took isn't as good as the sea bass used as the thumbnail. That was the Thai Sea Bass with coriander, lime and chilli and the small bit I tasted was beautiful
Other dishes our party ate were the Teriyaki Salmon fillet, miso marinated chicken, scallops with barbecue pork belly and avocado with crispy tofu. I had a taste of the avocado which was slightly charred and bloody amazing
Basically we ate a lot of food and none of us had one bad thing to say. The wine flowed well and we had a great time! Definitely rate Ivy Asia as one of Manchester's best...
Read moreCame here for food when on a night out with friends. Firstly, we did have a reservation. 6 minutes after out reservation we were told the party on our table were just paying and we shouldn't be waiting for too long. The restaurant was extremely busy and there wasn't anywhere appropriate to stand, as no matter where we were, we were in the way. It was then not till after 15 nearly 20 minutes after our reservation that our table was ready. So already we were 20 minutes after our reservation to be seated. Secondly, as detailed below, my friend has a severe nut allergy and they did tell her to scan the QR code, but it was not until after she had ordered that they told her the foods that are fried are not 100% guaranteed to have no cross contamination, so she ended up having to get a meal she was not as interested in, as it had to be something that wasn't friend. The waitress also suggested some meals that had nuts in, but even though they can just not be included, she was still suggesting dishes with nuts intentionally. It was a Saturday night so we expected it to be busy, but it was quite loud. We were on the ground floor and the food here is very traditional British. The 2nd floor Asian restaurant is very popular and I'd hope it's better, would like to try. Due to our table being late and my friend having the issue with her allergy, we didn't pay the service charge. We did not think having waited 20 minutes after our reservation for our table that a service charge was deserved. The toilets were very warm but beautiful. They're individual cubicles and have a statue in the middle. The lighting in the individual toilets is quite dark, so have to top up your makeup with the...
