I’ve visited over 10 times in the past 6 years, it’s actually my favourite restaurant and I’ve come for almost every special occasion I’ve had etc and it’s always been wonderful and i’ve left countless good reviews, however this time it really fell short. We were asked to wait in the bar area for a bit but there was no tables or seats free so we waited at the bar but nobody asked if we wanted anything etc, eventually we got to our table and we were never asked if we wanted water and then never ended up receiving the water we eventually had to ask for ourselves. The portions sizes had shrunk significantly since the last time i visited, dishes that had been the same the past several years (the mushroom spring rolls for example which i’ve ordered every single visit used to be three whole spring rolls, but it was now less than even two cut up into small chunks despite the price being higher too) and even after spending over £200 we weren’t full (we only got two cocktails each, the rest was food) we weren’t attended to very well and had different servers throughout that hadn’t introduced themselves which was different to previous times. by the time dessert had come we had finished our second cocktails (despite paying for the sharing cocktail, there was hardly any liquid, it only filled half a small glass and that was with a massive ice cube nearly the same size as the glass inside) but was not asked if we wanted another so we didn’t have a drink, even water, for the entire duration of dessert until us leaving. They even took our glasses and didn’t ask if we wanted anything else, we then wanted another drink before we left but couldn’t catch anyone’s attention and felt ignored for quite a while until a waitress brought our bill over without us asking or them asking us anything! The booking said we had our table until 10:45, but this was before then that i paid nevermind when we’d actually been left with an empty table with no food or drink on it, it was almost comical and we joked about how it looked like we were ready to start our meal as we had an empty table for so long, and we just felt quite disappointed in the whole experience as it has been such an important restaurant in my life and in our relationship even too, we were planning on coming back in a month for our anniversary but that just wasn’t a £200 experience or anything close to all of our past visits. If anything it’s just saddened me that it might be a sign of the times and that after 6 years I’m not going to have those experiences again and may need to move on.
I’ve included a picture of how the spring rolls for example have looked on all my past visits, compared to my last one. Despite the price going up over the years, the portion size has dramatically halved since my last visit, it’s hard to explain how small those pieces are. Seems like a small gripe but it just sums up the rest of it really. I used to be able to come here and be full after spending £100 for 2 give or take, now it’s £200. £12 for the equivalent of one and a half spring rolls just isn’t justifiable anymore, and it’s clear the care for the customers experience has gone down even further, my last review was specifically 5 stars for the server and...
Read moreI’ve come here twice now! Both times for my birthday(with a twist), Tattu is such a beautiful place to visit aesthetically pleasing in every way. The receptionist Cally was so lovely. We booked the wrong seating area and requested a different area instead to which we were told was also fine. Our waiter Beth/Bethan was absolutely amazing, she guided us through the menu, was so down to earth and made us feel so comfortable. She was definitely the superstar of the night as we saw her speeding around serving a group of about 30 people as well as balancing out looking after my table.
Unfortunately for me I had come in with such an awful migraine i wasn’t able to enjoy the experience as much, anyone with migraines would know that they distort your taste, make you feel nauseas upon eating anything at all and just completely ruin your day. Beth/ Bethan was so amazing, constantly refilling the water which I was absolutely dying for the whole evening so it was so great that she was super attentive to our table, she checked up on us and made sure everything was okay, I cannot be grateful enough for her amazing service honestly.
When I was feeling better the next day we made the decision to come back again and properly enjoy our experience at tattu as there was a lot that we missed out on, and I know that I would have enjoyed all that I had eaten the night before. We once again saw Cally at reception who was equally as friendly. She always seems so busy but manages to be so accommodating and welcoming still which is so lovely!
We were then served by the wonderful Edwin for the night - one thing to note about tattu is that the service is just outstanding - he too looked after us and made sure we were well accommodated to. He had great knowledge of the menu and was willing to recommend good foods for us if we were unsure. He constantly checked up on the table - but not in a way that was too much - to make sure we were all okay (once again in a crazy busy restaurant) it was just such an amazing experience. The food was as fantastic as I was expecting it to be. Being migraine free was heavenly, the food quality was spectacular I enjoyed every single thing that I ate. The presentation was beautiful I was just in awe of everything. Edwin heard that we had come back literally the next day due to not being able to fully enjoy the experience the night prior and was so kind to gift a small dessert with a sparkler that said “happy birthday, attempt 2” it was so nice and made me so happy I just had a great experience overall.
I wish I could have gotten some more names as there was another gentleman who delivered us the desserts each time who was also very friendly and remembered us from the night before and then there was another lady with Cally that took us to our table on the first night.
Overall we had just the most fantastic experience and we would recommend tattu to anyone. The service was immaculate and we definitely hope to...
Read moreUnfortunately my experience at Tattu Manchester was not a particularly pleasant one. I had a reservation for 2 at 6:30pm in the Parlour room, we arrived 14 minutes early and were politely told to wait in the bar by the Host. We ended up being seated 20 minutes after our reservation time (roughly 30 minutes with no drinks, 5 minutes with drinks in total), and it would have been longer had we not notified a member of staff. We were offered no apology or explanation for the delay, however I must stress that the host was otherwise polite and took note of the special occasion I briefly mentioned in conversation, which is admirable.
Once seated, we ordered our food and it arrived promptly. First thing to arrive was the XO scallops. Unfortunately, this was an entirely underwhelming dish. The scallops were textureless and mushy, with no bite or noticeably flavour. The topping did offer a relief from this by adding a level of umami, however this was not enough to salvage the dish.
Our waitress (Savannah, who was excellent) cleaned our tables and exchanged our plates, a practice that is common at this price point but appreciated nonetheless, and presented our next dish - the Dim Sum sharing platter.
The first morsel on this platter was a beautiful little mushroom parcel; this was fantastic and bursting with a rich, creamy mushroom flavour with a touch of umami. It was downhill from here though. The spicy prawn dim sum was more of the mushy, textureless disappointment that the scallops brought, and the cod (presented as a goldfish dumpling, very nice) was completely flavourless. The wagyu beef dumpling had the texture of wet dog food, and was utterly overwhelmed by sweet and sour sauce which resulted in the dumpling tasting much cheaper than it actually was.
We were then presented with two beef dishes, a four ounce ribeye with a soy/caramel sauce, very well cooked, very flavourful - a diamond in the rough on this occasion, and then the four ounce wagyu beef served on a salt block.
The heated salt block gave the dish a beautiful, soul warming heat that was genuinely fantastic. In fact, I think more food should be served on heated salt bricks. But not wagyu beef. The saltiness that this imparted onto the wagyu was overwhelming, and to serve it with soy sauce is a staggeringly brave double-down on saltiness that in my opinion didn't work, only taking away from the flavour of the wagyu beef. I have had wagyu several times before, and this is the worst wagyu I've had - in fact I'm on the fence as to what grade of wagyu it was, I'd be shocked to find out it was A5.
To my fellow diners, I recommend Australasia for better food at a lower price, and if you're wanting to splash out, Peter Street Kitchen blows Tattu out of the water in...
