Nice new weatherspoons in Luthers bar which is part of Newcastle university. They offer 10% discount if you have student card, Yaay. Luthers weatherspoon is clean and tidy and the staff are friendly and polite. Service us quick but I think that's down to all the staff they have, loads, lol. The tables are cleared and cleaned straight away which is good. The toilets are along a corridor but at least not up a lot of stairs🙂 the toilets are clean but definitely nothing special and they do have accessible toilet. Kuthers is right in the centre of the University campus and is definitely popular for not long being open. They don't offer a full menu like most weatherspoons and they still offer child's menu. You can get metro from haymaket which is close and so is a good local bus service. The prices are reasonable and you get small discount on top. The drink was nice, 1 corona and 1 duet pepsi The food well my friends came out first and a good 5 minutes later mine came out, not good. So firstly my friend had chicken tikka masala curry all great except the nan bread over cooked crispy and hard and surprised it didn't break any teeth, shame. Now I had scampi, mushy peas and salad. The salad was fine the scampi nice and hot but the mushy peas cold, sorry but peas must be served hot. I did ask for the peas to be warmed hot which they did but unfortunately when they came back bit warmer but not hot they didn't keep scampi hot so quite disappointing. I have mentioned to friends and other work mates. Would i return, yes I would I always believe in second chances so will return hoping the food...
Read moreUPDATE 31.07.25 (original review from some ten months previous still stands below): My second and longest visit! It was right in the middle of the summer holiday, a Thursday night so very few students were in plus a handful of none-students. Quiet indeed. My Shipyard was great at £3.14. The place was tidy, News24 was on the box and the pizzas banged out that I noticed looked ace. Once again, I imagine it can get ultra hectic when things rotate back to academic graft time.
I am a regular patron of Wetherspoon bars. Some are located in arguably 'tough' areas. This addition to the brand opened right under my nose but escaped my immediate attention. I hit the joint somewhat off-season (in student terms) several months after it opened and it was pretty empty. However, the Shipyard IPA was bang on as it tends to be so across the chain. My service was sound. I can see this bar selling billions of pints per week when the masses return. Scran will no doubt be as one expects. The general population will probably be unaware of Luther's existence in this case and...
Read moreVisited tonight with a friend. Service was extremely slow and staff did not seem to know how to handle large fresher week crowds (I’m not a student but was in the bar when large groups of students visited) When ordering drinks on the app (as was impossible to get to the bar due to said large crowds) they were talking on average over 30 mins to be delivered, despite about 8 staff members being on shift. I had to go asking where drinks were more than once (after being ignored by one staff member). I believe our drinks would never had been delivered had I not asked for them, as some drinks on the board were showing as being ordered over an hour earlier and not delivered. Food I ordered came quick however and was tasty
I’ll avoid this bar during term time and visit in the...
