Pret A Manger — Restaurant in Newcastle upon Tyne

I love Pret. I really do. I think the quality of drinks and food served is excellent as is the variety of products available. However, this is let down by their continued use of disposable paper and plastic cups for their sitting in experience. Contradicts their sustainability and green credentials. The Newcastle branch is a bit of soulless experience if you're sitting inside. I understand that there are limitations if there are no windows in the area so no natural light but the staff aren't particularly the most welcoming either (perhaps they were distracted and having an off day..who knows). Thoughts are... great if you're coming with your own portable to takeaway and enjoy their excellent offerings elsewhere but don't sit in if you care about the environment or want that comfortable, welcoming feel; not the Newcastle branch anyway. Updated this two months on because they still choose to use disposable cups for eat/drink in orders and I sent a query to Pret about this and was fobbed off with a "thanks for your thoughts and feedback to the store". No update, no change. Just disappointment and more waste...

Admittedly, it kind of pains me to praise a chain but credit where credit is due… Until last week I’d never been to Pret before, was the one chain I’d never tried for whatever reason but I wish I’d went sooner. The interior was what you’d expect from a chain - pretty dull and uninspired though not as a draining and headache-inducing as Starbucks. The vanilla latte was surprisingly smooth and flavourful. Didn’t taste like a cup of water, syrup wasn’t overpowering or too slight to taste. Been back a few times now and the service has been hit and miss in terms of friendliness, though the last barista, an older lady with glasses, was very nice. Quality of the drinks has been consistent. The iced latte was surprisingly nice, one of the better iced lattes I’ve had to be fair. A nice little coffee house to sit down and relax and have something to drink and maybe even something to eat as well .

The staff are very friendly to you and some of them will go out of their way to help you have a great time and visit .

They serve Hot and Cold Sandwiches as well as Soups and Salads Fruits and crisps and much more .

If your are allergic to certain foods , be Smart and have a word with someone on the staff about what you Can't have to eat and I'm sure that they will be able to help you choosing the right thing to have to eat and make your visit a Pleasant one and hopefully you will return again .

Yes , there is plenty of seating and yes , there are toilets and a baby change area .

Oh , PLEASE , PLEASE , PLEASE get rid of your mess before you leave . The staff doesn't get paid extra for cleaning up after...
