Went to underground dining after a family recommendation. I was confused from the start. I’m not sure where the name comes from and it doesn’t make any sense to me. The venue is like a greasy spoon cafe set up inside and is a street level premise on bangor high street. They didn’t have various items on the drinks menu and despite wanting wine I opted for a gin and tonic due to lack of stock. They had fever tree tonic which was great but I felt the drink was then detracted from by being served in an ugly Chunky tumbler and… aside from one other small group at the beginning of the night we were the only diners and felt there was no atmosphere as there was no music playing apart from in the toilets. We had two tasters which were nice but served in old fashioned un-matching dinnerware. The main courses were all steaks which were very nice and cooked well. I would say the main courses were the best part. I personally enjoyed my dessert however my friends had to send their pavlova back saying that the cream tasted like blue cheese. We were able to mention this directly to the chefs because they were clearing up and leaving the restaurant while we were just starting to eat our desserts. They were both in the restaurant at this stage in plain clothes with their coats on carrying out tasks. It was just so offputting. They were quick to accept that the cream tasted like blue cheese and didn’t seem surprised. The dessert was removed from the bill and no one seemed remotely concerned. I didn’t get a good impression of this venue at all and would avoid going back...
Read moreEnjoyed a lovely dinner last night on our first visit to Underground Dining. For starters we enjoy 4 tapas dishes : hubby raved about his Scotch Egg with Clontakilty Black Pudding and Fish Skin Poppadums. I had the Pork Belly Special, which lacked seasoning and flavour in my opinion, and the Sautéed Tiger Prawns which were amazing. For mains I had the seafood linguini special which was very flavourful (absolutely loved it) and hubby had the Seafood gratin - again just fabulous!! Finally for dessert, we had the chocolate brownie and caramel roulade with accompanying ice-creams and a macchiato coffee. Together with a bottle of excellent Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, this whole feast came to £84, which we felt was great value for the quality of food we had eaten!👍 The ambiance is very nice - no loud music and nice fellow diners. Two lovely ladies served us - the older lady is a total credit to the business - very amiable and switched on, whereas the younger lady did forget our water and sadly took forever to bring our bill. We very much enjoyed the dinner and will...
Read moreThe food is very varied, with a good selection of meat, fish, vegataria and vegan options in both starters and mains. Every dish ordered by our party being cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The only difficulty was deciding what to order, as we wanted everything on the menu. You are sure to be able to please everyone, even for people with special dietary needs. They do a taster selection of dishes for those unable to choose. The decor is simple but suitable, creating an ambiance that is modern and warming, in which you are still able to talk comfortably with others in your party, without the need to shout or having trouble hearing what is being said. The staff are friendly and knowalagable, explaining the special dishes of the day. They are very efficient and attentative without being overpowering. Although the wine list is not huge, it has something for everyone, and all good examples of their type. The prices of both the food and drinks are very reasonable. I would highly...
