Wow what can I say......the specials board...mmm....order if you feel like a game of roulette, 20 mins after ordering the waitresses come back and said they are sold out and that the chef changes the menu every hour, but they don't update the board .....then some of the food arrives but without what shown on the menu , the reply "the chef has decided not to include that" , so burrata with onion and tomatoes is now just burrata with rocket as the chef for some reason decides that he deems we no longer deserve the tomatoes and onion! When we ask about it the reply is "I can get you some if you want" but it never appears, neither does the person who we assume to be in charge of front of house, she stood and listened to the many and justified reasons we were not pleases, then disappeared never to be seen again, except for when we left , head down "too busy to acknowledge her customers". We assume she is too embarrassed by the shower of a restaurant she is working in.
What they do have is a huge surplus of garlic, everything comes with a huge amount included so so so strong to the point of its massively overpowering.
Let's move onto the drinks....sorry we have run out of gin (they only do one), "it's been a busy week" , same goes for Aperol and the same for the wine ....there is a Sainsbury's 4 minutes walk away! It's not a difficult problem to solve.
The waiting staff look so unhappy, assumed to be because they are getting the displeasure of the customers for the chef "creative license" plates just slammed down onto the table, no engagement with their customers.
So to sum up, if you'd like to go to a restaurant and order 3 things with the chance of maybe getting one, possibly getting the drink you'd like (likely not) and being served by people who would rather be somewhere else then this is the place for you....me I'll be...
Read moreWent to Sexy Mamma Love Spaghetti for dinner with a friend. We had high expectations as the place was recommended to us by numerous people. My friend tried calling all day to book a table but we ended up just walking in due to a lack of response.
The only thing I can really praise is the friendliness of the waiter
We ordered soft drinks which came in pint glasses. I assumed the quantity we were served was either 25 or 33cl. That's fine but then serve it in glasses that are the appropriate size. The glasses looked half empty and it's visually/psychologically not giving a good first impression.
I had the burrata as my starter. It came with a pool of olive oil and some basil leaves, no bread to dip in the oil and no seasoning. The tomatoes were cheap salad tomatoes that were flavourless. For £8 some bread, black pepper and vine tomatoes would be more appropriate.
My friend had the ciabatta and oil/balsamic vinegar. She ran out of oil pretty quickly and asked for a refill. The waiter was accommodating which was appreciated.
I had the pancetta ragu penne... served on a pizza plate. Everyone around me had it served in a pasta bowl. Again, please think about the visual experience you offer to customers. It's okay to charge £15, that's how you price your cooking and it's down to you, but the quantity was ridiculously slim compared to the English standard and the presentation was off. Tastewise it was okay, however the pasta was overcooked and the salt overpowering. I couldn't taste any aromatic spices. My friend's risotto lacked seasoning, was watery and presented on a pizza plate instead of a bowl as well. Again aromatic seasoning like oregano, basil, thyme, garlic...

It wasn’t the setting for a relaxing meal when you could hardly hear each other talk. Once eventually being found a table to share with strangers, there was added frustration at being unable to read the menu due to the terrible handwriting. After waiting longer than we would have preferred for a table and for orders, the poor waitress who was lovely but clearly stressed, came over to take our food orders before asking for drinks. Our side of the table wasn’t even set with cutlery or glasses. After working for years in various hospitality establishments, this was poor form and epitomised the chaotic state of the restaurant. At this point, we decided to leave because we wanted a calm and almost faultless night. You could foresee this wasn’t going to be the case here due to the volume of customers and pressure on staff, we would have been plagued with errors. I also found it irritating to be sat beside the open kitchen. I don’t like my clothes smelling like onion, garlic and oil, and hearing pans clanging and staff chatter when paying for a meal. While I do admire the transparency and authenticity of this, it’s not a fast food restaurant, which it oddly mirrored in the chaos. As I understand it’s always going to be tricky to establish a new restaurant in a new location, I do hope these are teething issues that will be rectified because the food sounds genuinely nice when done well. However, at a time of increasing costs, I couldn’t justify spending money on these prices in considering the loud atmosphere and...
