Stepping into the Jolly Farmers Pub in Oxford is like stepping into a warm, vibrant hug that lasts the entire visit. Nestled in the heart of this historic city, this venue isnât just a pub; itâs an experienceâa celebration of diversity and community wrapped in the charm of an old, quirky building that only adds to its allure.
As a renowned gay venue, the Jolly Farmers excels in creating a welcoming atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The staff,(Tom, Ryan, Rob, and Spike to name a few and in no particular order đ) with their unmatched hospitality, play a significant role in crafting this environment. They greet you with smiles that feel genuine and service that goes beyond mere professionalism; itâs the kind of warmth that makes you feel seen, understood, and valued.
The building itself is a character on its own. With its unique quirks and features, it tells a story of years gone by, of laughter and camaraderie, making the space feel alive with history and stories waiting to be told. Itâs a place where every nook and cranny has a tale, and if walls could talk, oh, the tales they would tell!
The Jolly Farmers has seen many a lazy afternoon spent in the company of good friends and my dog, who seems just as welcomed as human patrons by the owners and of course Sherlock the resident pup. Itâs a place where time slows down, allowing for the simple joy of being in good company to take centre stage. On the other hand, trains have been missed and memories made while enjoying the garden and taking in the entertainment on its very own stage.
Whether youâre local to Oxford or just passing through, the Jolly Farmers Pub is a must-visit. Itâs more than a pub; itâs a sanctuary for those seeking a slice of joy, acceptance, and community. So, hereâs to many more Saturdays at the Jolly Farmers, a place that feels less like a venue and more like...
Read moreUpdate, they have amended their response 3 times same as me, its just excuses and saying I was unsafe, at no point did they challenge my behaviour or ask me to leave so either this is an unsafe venue or it's just reaction to a negative review. Just a shame I was so excited to show my friends this place and we were all a bit gutted. The pub needs to invest in its team, one was quite aggressive and the others seemed tired. I don't normally comment on price of drinks but compared to other places in Oxford I wouldve expected a better quality vodka for what we were paying for.
Their response to feed back is unprofessional, emotive, inappropriately personal, quite spiteful and there is no consideration of how their response will impact people with a mental health illness. It lacked positive energy and was ill equipped/resourced to facilitate and manage drunken behaviour. Bit expensive which is fine if a positive vibe was provided. Me and my friends came to Oxford to have a drunken night and I have been to Jolly farmers several times over the years so said we had to go. The staff helped me find my wallet and keys which was super kind. The reason for my review is me and my friends felt we were treated and responded to in a way that it was audacious we were drunk. Probably will go back after a couple of years to see if its...
Read moreAbsolutely appalled at the treatment my friend received at this pub. She went in for drinks with friends and all of them had face masks on except for her (quite rightly so as she is exempt.) She was told to leave immediately but she showed them her lanyard and medical notes to prove she had a legit reason. From what Iâve heard the staff were incredibly rude and abusive, raising their voice saying they had never heard of the condition before and to get out. They later said if they knew she was disabled and wouldâve caused hassle then they would not have let her in. None of them were rowdy, none of them were drunk, they had the medical notes you are asked for as proof and all of the staff were plain rude. She explained she gets anxious which doesnât help but they proceeded to shout Infront of everyone in the pub, calling her a âpublic health riskâ. Considering the circumstances, this is really unprofessional and immoral and I would highly recommend that they revisit how they approach issues like this or they will loose a lot of customers. Can I add, the manager himself was not wearing a face mask. Would not recommend anyone stands for...
