Some of the negative comments on here are ridiculous!
The bread is too hard / overrated / overpriced etc - it's meant to be like that lol, clearly you don't like sourdough bread. It also cannot be compared to UP supermarket bread as they use much higher quality ingredients and a slower process to make the bread. However it's much more healthy for you and imo much more delicious! It's meant to be hard - it's better for you! But if that's not for you that's fair enough .. But that's a matter of taste not a reflection on the quality of the product.
The pastries have too much fat - clearly you don't know how pastries are made! That's literally how croissants are made - with lots of butter - delicious! But if you don't like it that's fine, don't buy any... Products run out /taste stale by 11 am - go earlier then...! The bread and pastries area obviously going to taste better when freshly baked, not after they've been sitting out for 4 hours. Saying that I've often been there after 11 and they still have plenty and it still tastes fine (even better if you take it home and warm in the oven).
One thing I will say is that I've seen some of the staff on their phones while handling bread or dough which really freaks me out for hygiene reasons - most people's phones are NOT cleaned regularly, many people take them into the toilet and put them down everywhere etc. I've seen the same thing in the bakery sections of supermarkets eg Sainsbury's. I would hope that Bread Addiction would have higher standards...!
Also one more thing - the coffee is really nice here but the milk texturing and latte art could be a little better - I often seem to get served a cappuccino when I've ordered a latte...
Overall though I...
Read moreUsed to be my favourite place to eat in Southsea. Then the prices started creeping up, and they removed the student discount. Now, the new counter girl and her sour disposition make the whole experience less than pleasant. I make eggs and avocado at home now.
Edited December 2016. I revisited today to see that they've won an award for their baking, which is thoroughly deserved. Their bread and pastries are really great. The same cashier served me, however this time with a smile on her face. I feel as though I must've caught her at a bad time before. Upgraded my review to 4 stars.
-Edited June 2019. Bread addiction are on a new level, their selection is much better. Today I had a double baked coconut croissant and it was out of this world. Really really delicious. Bumped up to 5*, because this is truly the best place to eat in portsmouth, maybe the best place south of London. They could charge anything now and have the worst customer service, but the pastries would still...
Read moreI happened to be passing by when I saw there was a que out the door so of course I had to go check it out the next day! I asked the guy behind the counter for the best seller which he told me was the cinnamon bun which, unfortunately was sold out. He suggested his next bestsellers, being the pistachio cruffin and the fruit bostock, so naturally I got both. These were amazing! I couldn't wait to try them so I immediately had the cruffin, which was messy but amazing 😍 the bostock was even nicer but I didn't manage to finish it all so I ate it later which to be honest only added to it as I liked the fruit was even more soaked in. The bread looked good but I had no need for it but I was going to pop back the next day to grab some to take home with me but I didn't have time. I would highly...
