This is my first time at Chilis Indian restaurant. The ardently celebrated Valentine’s Day was giving us bad luck. We found the tables were all booked and it might take longer to get a place. We just hopped off to other places to find it is the same case everywhere. There is so much love in the world and most restaurants had overflowing queues outside their doors. Luck favoured us and booked a table. It was an hour long wait. Finally we are in our seats. The restaurant was classy with beautiful paintings, loved the interior. The flatwares and silverwares were elegant with pristine white serviette. The orange juice arrived swiftly followed by lemonade and lassi. Next arrived the starters The gobi manchurian The cut Mirchi The chicken 65 All three were perfect and tastes better than any restaurant in UK The main course The egg kothu parotta The veg noodles And egg Dum Biriyani Raita and mirchi salan accompanied the biriyani and parotta.
Not eaten this variation of kothu parotta for quite a long time.Taste texture and temperature was nice. Combination of this parotta salan and raita is delicious. The veg noodles, the authentic taste of a south Indian noodles. Tasted delicious, children were happier. The Biriyani is the superhero in a word “ambrosial”
Highly recommend the experience, not just the taste but the ambiance too. Friendly service by all staffs.
Will visit again Chilis. Keep up the good work.
Next visit hoping to have the...
Read moreI recently dined at Chillis , and it was a delightful journey through authentic Indian flavors. The aroma of spices hit me the moment I walked in — always a good sign.
Food: The menu had a great variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I tried the butter chicken and garlic naan — both were excellent. The chicken was tender, the gravy rich and creamy, and the naan was soft with just the right amount of char. The paneer tikka was also a standout, full of smoky flavor.
Ambience: The decor was warm and inviting, with traditional Indian artwork and mellow lighting that made the space feel cozy yet upscale.
Service: Staff were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. They were happy to explain spice levels and offer suggestions for those less familiar with Indian cuisine.
Price: Reasonable for the quality and portions. Not overly expensive, but not cheap either — you get what you pay for.
Room to Improve: The only downside was that the food took a bit long to arrive. Not a huge issue, but noticeable.
Would I return? Definitely. Whether you’re an Indian food enthusiast or new to the cuisine, [Restaurant Name] is a flavorful stop worth making. Thank you Karan for...
Read moreHas potential but it’s let down by some key shortcomings. 1. We went on a Saturday night, so it was busy but not full. However, do order our drinks we had to wait for 15 minutes as most of the staff is new and for whatever reason they don’t come and ask you for your order. The drinks were lassis and a beer. The lassis were delivered but I had to ask for the beer twice for it to be brought to the table.
The starters took another 20 minutes to be brought out. And once we had finished the starters, we had to wait another 15 minutes before someone cleared the table, and another 10-15 minutes for the mains to be brought our. All in all we waited half an hour between finishing starters and being served the mains.
While the staters tasted fine, the mains were a bit too salty for our taste, be it the chicken dishes or the dal. We regularly eat at other Indian restaurants in Reading and food here is a bit salty in general. It was well prepared though and would have tasted good if it wasn’t for the salt level.
So all in all, the place has potential but they need to improve their table service massively. All their staff is new and they need to get some who have worked in...
