Madoo: A Slice of Italy in Reading

Madoo is not just a café; it’s an experience that transports you straight to the heart of Italy. Nestled in Reading, this charming local spot has quickly become a favorite for those who crave authentic Italian flavors, warm hospitality, and a cozy, vibrant atmosphere.

From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted with the aroma of freshly baked bread and the friendly smiles of the staff. The vibe here is effortlessly inviting, with a blend of rustic Italian charm and modern touches. Whether you're stopping by for a quick coffee or settling in for a leisurely meal, Madoo makes you feel right at home.

The food is simply outstanding. Madoo’s menu is a celebration of Italian cuisine, with every dish crafted using high-quality ingredients that make each bite a delight. The star of the show has to be their focaccia sandwiches. These sandwiches are a revelation—light, airy focaccia, perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, stuffed with a variety of fresh, flavorful fillings. Every bite is a taste of Italy, with the bread alone being worth the visit.

And then there are the pistachio croissants—pure perfection. Flaky, buttery, and generously filled with rich, creamy pistachio goodness, these croissants are a must-try for any pastry lover. They strike the perfect balance between sweet and savory, making them an ideal treat to pair with a cup of Madoo’s expertly brewed coffee.

What truly sets Madoo apart is the passion and care that’s evident in every aspect of the café. The people behind the counter are as much a part of the experience as the food itself. They bring a genuine warmth and enthusiasm that makes every visit special. Whether you’re a regular or a first-time visitor, you’re treated like family.

In short, Madoo is a gem in Reading, a place where you can savor the best of Italy without leaving town. If you’re looking for delicious food, great coffee, and an atmosphere that’s both lively and laid-back, Madoo is the place to be. The focaccia sandwiches and pistachio croissants are our personal favorites, but honestly, everything on the menu is worth trying. This café is a little piece of Italy that you’ll want to visit...

I popped by Madoo on a Saturday afternoon after only recently becoming aware of its existence, with it not being on the main high street. I was warmly welcomed and the staff were so friendly and helped me in making my choice of Cannoli filling - the Pistachio. First, the cannoli are freshly filled, so big points for that! Also, I love that they do a Pistachio and ricotta/marscapone mix for the filling opposed to just Pistachio cream. Now this Cannoli was beautiful and tasted very authentically Italian. The Cannoli shell was beautiful crisp, as it should be, and the filling strong in Pistachio and a lovely smooth texture. The atmosphere in the cafe was also welcoming, light and airy, and I love that they sell a selection of Italian snacks e.g. cookies and biscuits also! The Cannoli was so good I ended up taking two away to enjoy later, which were boxed up for me and bought to my table. I would highly recommend Madoo, and will definitely be coming back for a cannoli (or two!) and to try some of there...

Lovely deli with lots of Italian delicacies and treats. Panini, piadine and sandwiches are made properly, super delicious and overflowing with genuine Italian ingredients like mozzarella, salami, prosciutto, etc. The customer service is second to none, polite, charming and the Italian radio station playing in the background makes you feel you found a real corner of Italy in Reading. Absolutely worth a visit, forget the expensive fake Italian chains, go for the authentic...

Beautiful Mozzarella, Basil, and Tomato toastie on Foccacia bread. Delicious!! They cut the mozzarella and tomato as they made the sandwich - it felt like it was being crafted just for me. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Flat White had a beautiful texture, and was served in a nice recycled coffee cup, but it would have been nice if it was a touch stronger. Looking forward to returning!
