We went for a drink on a normal week day evening. We being served by a very young girl who I am not even sure she could served alcohol. My partner asked for a double Monkey Shoulder with tonic on side. The girl came back with a long tumbler saying that she could not served double in the same glass. I asked her to then served the other gin on a shot glass so we could have poured ourselves which she did. However the drink was far from being gin and smell instead of hazelnut. We asked what she served us and she replied that her manager suggested ger to serve that " liquer"instead because they had not the gin we selected. The manager was a red hair guy sitting on the bar like a statue and was observing everyone on the bar and us like we were aliens but never took accountability or either tried to help the little girl who was clearly struggling. Myself I ordered simply a Mojito and I got served a transparent liquid with a lot of liquid sugar mix with no trace of mint or alcohol.I then asked where the mint was and she replied that if I really need it she could go in the kitchen and ask for some like if it was something complementary rather than necessary. Take into consideration that cocktails are on the menu and with an offer of 2 for £12 after 5pm. Another female manager (a chubby lady ) wan behind the bar too. She witnesses my questioning and explained that they did not had the Monkey Shoulder so apparently that was enough for them to pour whatever spirit or cocktail mixer they feel like without consulting the customer before. She def seen that sort of cocktails the innocent girl served but she decided that we were not worthy of her customer service so continued to keep doing other task careless and without a crumble of apology or interest about the customer service the young girl was trying to provide. My partner was so uneasy that we decided to sit at the table with the drinks but we left after 2 minutes as they were undrinkable. We have been charge £16 not even the advertised offer of £12 was rightly applied. It is a pity that google review does not allow the 0 star rate as I believe they did not deserved even that really. I almost felt a bit of discrimination and racism on the way we have been treated as we were not quite British. I worked in this industry for decade in UK and never came across to a bartender refusing me a double portion of drink or food; or neither a manager suggesting a subordinate to serve an hazelnut cocktail mixer instead of a gin while scrutinizing us from the throne behind the bar where he sits like any ordinary customer. And it sounds like he did on purpose to me. So lovely pub and location but management and lack of proper training spoiled our visit and definitely I am not encouraged to repeat it. Let me add another 0 to the response to the review as the manager seems not be able to undetstamd the nature of the complaint.Sam did you get that you have siggested to serv a hazelnut mixer instead of a gin? Did you u derstand thayou served a iced sugar liquid mixer instead of a mojito? Did you undersanstand the managers on duty failed to rectify the error? Did you understand that you charged us £16 for drinking mixer. 35 years of experience in the industry between two managers and still you failed to respond appropriately to the review? Sorry but you do not have any respect for your customers and their money. Remember Sam mistakes happen the point is how you can rectify them. And, you...
Read moreWe had booked a table of 10 but when we arrived, there was only a table of 2 available and expected, our booking having been recorded wrong. The staff were overworked and harassed but very friendly and worked hard to fit us in. We were encouraged to use the app to order but the Sunday course deals were not on the app. This was not very clearly communicated and other guests also had trouble, waiting at table to order. We expected a wait as the restaurant had not expected a big table and we have also worked in hospitality, but 3 hours for total meal time with big waits in between courses was testing. This was not helped by the lack of staff to clear the table between courses. The sauces on all tables encountered were out of date. The starters were lovely, the Sunday roast bland, unsatisfying, and disappointing. I also had the munchie sundae which had 2 spoonfuls of ice cream and the rest of the glass was whipped cream. In short, the whole experience was a mess of lack of organisation and cost saving measures. It was evident that management have taken extreme measures to cut costs in both staffing and food quality. I understand the need to do this in the current climate but The Dog was nowhere near achieving the fine balance of doing this, leading to an utterly disappointing, uncomfortable experience, despite the best efforts of an overworked staff. It was apparent that my poor experience was shaped by management and policy and that the staff are caught in an impossible position of trying to obey policy whilst trying as individuals to do their best for the customers. I hope when you open after refurb, that you have a different approach to service, to support the passion that is...
Read moreUpon arriving, I could see a few tables reserved, so I asked a male member of staff, where I would be looking to find a free table, he was very sarcastic about where to sit which didn't give me good vibes about my experience already. I used the tablet to check what I wanted from the menu and check for anything that I would be allergic to, that was good and very helpful. The female servers behind the bar were nice and polite and helpful with whatever question that I had. The main issue was the food itself apart from my experience with the male member of staff. The food was too expensive for what I got, I ordered the chicken, back bacon and avocado salad, and I have to say I was more than disappointed, I had two very small, thin slices of avocado, the chicken was cut up into tiny little cubes and I mean tiny, and the bacon was just pointless that was cut up smaller than the chicken and was hardly anything there. The salad part was literally just four romaine lettuce leaves, four slices of tomatoes and four slices of cucumber. For an £11 salad I was expecting to have a bowl of salad, with a sliced chicken breast on top, with some thicker cut back bacon and some actual avocado through it considering that's what the salad was called. My friend and I were still so hungry after eating and didn't want to stay much longer because of our experience so far, we were left disappointed and still hungry, so we just went to McDonald's and had a couple of...
