I used to be a regular customer but today's experience will be my last. On entering we were asked angrily if it was food or drinks, when we said just drinks we were told to sit. Fully expecting it was obviously table service we waited, and waited but no one came over. When we went to the bar for drinks it felt like we were interrupting the staff conversation, mid way through pouring my pint the staff member left to deal with a customer who had just entered, rather that saying they would be with them shortly. My wife wanted a gin, the measure was short and without asking the staff member threw a bit of lime in the glass. Another "paying" customer beside us left and thanked the staff on their way out and both staff behind the bar ignored them with sullen faces and just continued doing what they were doing. Before leaving I had to use the toilet but felt uncomfortable as the toilet door wouldn't lock. This was the last straw. One member of staff acknowledged us during our visit, unfortunately this felt so different to "all" the other staff that it felt almost weird. Staff should be aware it's the customer's that pay their wages, not thr "customers" that interrupted their chat!...

Went here as part of the Glasgow Cocktail Festival and had an absolutely terrible experience. Despite having both the official festival wristband and a valid electronic ticket (the festival organisers weren’t even issuing printed tickets yet), we were flatly refused the deal we were supposed to get. Staff insisted on a physical printed ticket that literally did not exist — which felt like a flimsy excuse not to honour the promotion.
The attitude made it seem like they simply couldn’t be bothered serving us under the festival offer. Instead, we were told we could just pay full price if we wanted food or drinks. At that point it honestly felt like they’d signed up to the festival just to get people through the door and then upsell them at full price.
It left a really bad impression — rude, dismissive service and a complete disregard for the spirit of the festival. We left without ordering and none of us will be back.
Strongly recommend avoiding Bar Soba if you’re doing the Glasgow Cocktail Festival. Plenty of other venues treat customers with respect and actually honour their...
Read moreWhile we enjoyed our food and overall visit was fine, we had an issue when it came to paying. I understand going along on NYE meant they would charge what they like, however i had chosen this place knowing about their student discount, had asked when we arrived and was told the discount could be applied and then also saw that they offered usual discounts on selected drinks. While i can understand maybe the drinks discount not being applied because of nye, not once was it specified anywhere (website when booking or in the restaurant) that my student discount wouldn’t be applied. That was until we went up to pay and i mentioned my student discount and was brushed away by staff saying it wouldn’t be taken off of the bill because it was nye. I wasn’t in an argumentative mood so sucked it up and paid, however don’t think this was good customer service, and think its valid to assume i would be able to redeem my student discount. Just because it’s nye doesn’t mean these things can always be thrown out...
