Arrived around 8:30 PM on Thursday night after returning from a long day at The Open (in Troon). We were quoted a 20-minute wait, but it was much less than that, essentially giving us time to each go to the restroom and peruse the menu while sitting in the bar.
The restaurant is very large, busy, and energetic. I loved the vibe of this place, but it is not the place to go if you want a relaxed, quiet meal. (We had that the night before at another Italian restaurant). We were tired and wanted a nice meal prior to returning to our hotel, and this fit the bill really, really well.
We both ordered off the specials (#3 this night): a rigatoni dish with fennel sausage. The portion size was large and the food was very good.
We had a great view of the kitchen while waiting for our meal, and marveled at the efficiency of the process. It was fun watching the chefs and others expertly and efficiently prepare the orders and get them to the customers.
My biggest complaint is our server was not up to par. When we sat down, it took a while for her to come to our table. We noticed several patrons who were seated after us already had drinks before we even saw our server. When she did first show up, she left immediately before even talking to us other than saying "I'll be right back". She returned a minute or two later. I'm not sure why this happened.
When she arrived, we immediately told her we wanted to order (two #3s and tap water). After finishing our meal, she cleared our plates and asked if we were interested in dessert. We said no, we had a long day, and just wanted to pay. Fifteen minutes later, with both of us sitting there, jackets on, credit card in hand, two empty water glasses and an empty bottle of water on our table, we were finally able to track her down again and ask for our check. She acted like this was a surprise, even though we literally had been sitting there with nothing but empty water glasses. She came back a minute later and we were on our way.
Overall, a good experience. Could have been great, but I think our server was overwhelmed and just not...
Read moreWhat a wonderful discovery; a restaurant with perfect balance in all sectors. The environment, the food, the prices, the tastes. An excellent, friendly, beautiful space that makes you feel like home (the stuff helps a lot of with this feeling). This is also achieved through some of the dishes we tried.
Very good materials and leather seats that help you relax and enjoy what comes to your plate. The space has a great lighting and decorations that create a great energy place and lively environment that can be the choice of destination for a job meeting to a night out with friends. We liked all the dishes and we felt that this would be a restaurant we would visit often.
In peak times you might have to wait somewhere around 15 'as reservations were not made,
I am glad I discovered this new place in Glasgow, and recommend not to miss the opportunity to discover. I would highly recommend to everyone to visit.
Read moreI never imagined I would have to write a review like this, especially about Sugo, a restaurant my friends and I used to love. We’ve been here many times, brought friends, shared meals, and recommended it to others. But what we experienced today was not just disappointing — it was deeply upsetting and, quite frankly unacceptable.
We arrived for lunch today about 2pm. It wasn’t busy at all — there were empty tables. After being seated, we waited patiently to be served. We sat beside the bar, and a female FOH who has brown curly hair with pony tail came by, and to our shock, she walked straightly passing us and served the two customers who arrived after us at the table right next to ours. Then she continued to serve the table seemed ignoring us. She completely skipped us — as if we didn’t exist.
We made several eye contacts with her. But she served everyone around — everyone except us. It was not a mistake. It was not forgetfulness. It was a deliberate act of exclusion.
This, to us, is a clear case of implicit discrimination. The way we were being ignored — while others were acknowledged and served without delay, made us feel unwelcome, invisible, and othered. It was not just a bad service — it was personal, and it was painful.
We only received table service after we actively reaching out to another staff member. Had we remained silent, I’m convinced we would have continued to be ignored.
We hope Sugo takes this seriously. Implicit discrimination is still discrimination, and it has no place in any...
