Firstly, the positives.
We met friends in Glasgow but thought we'd struggle to find a decent restaurant open on a New Year Bank Holiday, so were pleasantly surprised to see that Chaopraya was open. Booking is simple via online links, with a useful follow up a day before the booking to ensure that nothing had changed, and to confirm.
The restaurant is sited in a magnificent city centre building in Nelson Mandela Place and is easy to get to by foot from local parking. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful - the building is A listed and was built originally as the Liberal Club, later becoming the Royal Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Reception is on the ground floor, from where you are personally escorted to the incredible high ceilinged restaurant on the next floor up.
The food was to the really high standard we expected, having had a takeaway before from the Edinburgh branch of this chain. It really sits well above what you usually experience with Thai cuisine - delectable, beautifully presented and with options and tastes you'll never have had before.
However.....
Once we were sat at our table and had ordered, the standard of service deteriorated quite markedly. There were plenty of servers but no-one dedicated to us. The staff seemed unaware of where we were in our meal and had to be attracted to attend each time something was needed. The attention once they realised we had finished a course or wanted to order something else was fine, but it was annoying that none of the servers looked at any of the tabled diners to see if they were needed. Mostly they were stood around a service console and screen which unhelpfully faced away from the dining area - something that could easily be changed so that diners could catch a server's eye when needed. It didn't spoil our meal - the food was excellent and the setting just perfect - but the absence of a server dedicated to our table, or any table, meant that the edge was taken off the experience.
Would I recommend? Yes, absolutely. But maybe the management team need to address the serving issue, as its a shame it doesn't reach the same high standards as the food. Oh for the days of a...

I used to love going to this restaurant but after my experience on Thursday I won’t be back!
I took my husband and 2 year old daughter here on Thursday gone for my husbands birthday! We choose this restaurant as we had been to the one in Edinburgh with an exceptional experience! On arrival we were met with rude staff! My daughter was pointing to a booth and asked to sit there! The customers sat at the table next to where she was pointing were waving at my daughter but the waiter ignored her and sat us in a corner out the way of all the other diners because we had a child.
Once seated the menus were pretty much thrown on the table and when we asked for a kids menu we were given a look of disgust as if my daughter didn’t deserve to be there let alone eat there! I tried to brush it off as it was my husbands birthday!
We then placed our order for the lunch tapas! The food arrived within 5 minutes telling me having worked in this industry and a manager at a bar/restaurant myself that the food had been laying on the pass for quite some time! It was cold and over cooked and disgusting! No check back was even done for 45 mins to complain! By this point I just wanted out!
We received looks of disgusted when my daughter started crying because her iPad switched off I couldn’t believe it! We when then pretty much forced out of restaurant at the end. I will not be back and feel terrible that the one time my family and I get to go for a nice meal which isn’t very often we were...

Overall, I thought this Thai food was average. (Maybe I gave it too much expectation before I get there)
Chao Platter, which charges by the number of people, is £10.50 per person. We ordered for two. A total of five snacks. The taste was average and didn't feel delicious.
Chicken Tom Yur. The chicken seemed to be chicken breast and the texture was dry. The flavor of the Tom Yum soup was not strong and I didn't even think it was as good as my Thai friend's at the apartment.
Sous Vide Beef @anang Curry, I really don't recommend this dish. It's too bad. I ordered the curry, but the dish tasted like Tom Yum Kung. The beef looked like it had been cooked for a long time and the texture was hard and very hard to chew.
K Prawn Pineacple Fried Rice, very bland in flavor. Not recommended, not good.
Crispy Pork Belly Thai, finally a tasty dish!!! Very tasty pork. The taste is similar to the Chinese braised pork. The vegetables in this dish are also very good, the only thing that I am not satisfied with is that the portion is too small.
All in all, I don't think the taste, portion size and price of their dishes match each other. The price deserves better taste and more portions.
In addition, due to my carelessness, I did not realize that I had paid an extra pound for "optional charity" when I paid. The waiter didn't remind the customer of this either. I am not happy about this, I am willing to do charity, but only if I am...
